City Hall Annex, 98 Washington Street Called to Order: 6:33 p.m. Members Present: Tyler Carlton, James Flynn, Elizabeth McGovern, Cynthia Nina-Soto Staff Present: None 1. Welcome and introductions 2. Approval of minutes Committee unanimously approved the minutes of February 28, 2019 3. Financial update Tyler provided the year-to-date finance report for both the Scholarship Fund (April 1st-10th receipts: $1.00; current balance: $3,481.48) and the Education Fund (April 1st-10th receipts: $5.02; current balance: $21,740.46). 4. Old business a. Discussion on the use of the Education Fund Liz McGovern reached out to school principals to see if they had any suggestions for projects that could use the Education Fund money. As of yet, none of the principals have responded. Carlton School does have a music class that could use donations. Salem Education Foundation only funds one-time events. Our committee can look at ongoing events and/or look at applications for SEF grants that were not approved. There was discussion about creating an application process for organizations that provide adult education programs and for the SPS that have requests for the funds. James Flynn mentioned that the Salem Public Library does not offer adult education programs. Liz asked how far geographically can our Education Fund money go, if there is a program in Lynn or Danvers that we know a Salem resident attends, as long as the fund is benefiting the Salem Resident? Cynthia asked if Education Fund money can be spent on early education/day care programs? b. June Scholarship Awards event The event will take place June 11, 6pm, for the first annual scholarship awards event at the CLC. The Superintendent cannot attend (8th grade moving on is the same night). Tyler will check with Target for donations to the event for food and refreshments. 5. New business Flatbread Pizza is able to host a fundraiser for the Scholarship fund. Next Meeting: Monday, May 20th, 6:30 p.m., 98 Washington Street Adjourned: 7:12 p.m.
