Scholarship & Education Committee Meeting Minutes - Draft Tuesday, April 28, 2020, 6:30 P.M., meeting held remotely Scholarship application due date moved to June 15th – moved by liz, second by Jennifer No May meeting, next meeting June 23rd, 6:30pm Called to Order: 6:35 p.m. Members Present: Tyler Carlton, Elizabeth McGovern, Jennifer McAlpine, Tayla Rose, Cynthia Nina- Soto Staff Present: Dominick Pangallo 1. Call to Order 2. Approval of minutes The committee unanimously approved the minutes of February 25, 2020. 3. Financial update The Scholarship Fund has a balance of $3,369.77. The Education Fund received has a balance of $16,456.29. Dominick distributed the four-year trends for January, February, March, and April. 4. Old business a. Fundraising updates None. b. Education Fund grant application review On a motion from Tayla, seconded by Liz, the committee voted unanimously to temporarily suspend awarding additional Education Fund grants until there is more clarity around when schools will reopen. Jennifer reported she had not yet reached out to the Book Buddies program and would do so once schools were reopened. c. Status of special act relative to the Education Fund No update. d. Postponing Scholarship Fund application due date On a motion from Liz, seconded by Jennifer, the committee voted unanimously to extend the 2020 Salem Scholarship application due date from May 15, 2020 to June 15, 2020. Dominick will provide electronic copies of application materials so that members can review them prior to the June committee meeting. 5. New business The committee will not meet in May. Next Meeting: Tuesday, June 23rd, 6:30 p.m., City Hall Annex Adjourned: 6:55 p.m.

CITY OF SALEM, MASSACHUSETTS Kimberley Driscoll Mayor Scholarship & Education Committee Tuesday, April 28, 2020 6:30 p.m. Pursuant to Governor Baker’s March 12, 2020 Order Suspending Certain Provisions of the Open Meeting Law, G.L. c. 30A, §20,and the Governor’s March 15, 2020 Order imposing strict limitation on the number of people that may gather in one place, this meeting of the Salem Scholarship & Education Committee will be conducted via remote participation to the greatest extent possible. Specific information and the general guidelines for remote participation by members of the public and/or parties with a right and/or requirement to attend this meeting can be found on the city’s website, at www.salem.com. The meeting will be opened at 6:15pm to allow members of the public to test their audio. During portions of the meeting in which public comment is permitted, members of the public who have “raised their hand” in Zoom will be called on to offer comment. In order to raise a hand, member of the public using the Zoom computer of phone application may click the “Raise Hand” button; members of the public dialing in may press “*9” to raise their hand to speak. No in-person attendance of members of the public will be permitted, but every effort will be made to ensure that the public can adequately access the proceedings in real time, via technological means. In the event that we are unable to do so, despite best efforts, we will post on the city’s website an audio or video recording, transcript, or other comprehensive record of proceedings as soon as possible after the meeting.
