Scholarship & Education Committee Meeting Minutes - Draft
Tuesday, August 25, 2020, 6:30 P.M., meeting held remotely
Called to Order: 6:32 p.m.
Members Present: Tyler Carlton, Elizabeth McGovern, Amy Stewart

1. Call to Order
2. Approval of minutes
On a motion by Liz, seconded by Amy, the committee unanimously approved the minutes of June 23,
2020.
3. Financial update
The Scholarship Fund has a balance of $3,521.47. The Education Fund has a balance of $20,214.02.
Dominick shared the four-year trend of receipts for both funds for June and July.
4. Old business
a. Fundraising updates
Tyler applied to the Salem Five Charitable Foundation Grant, but the committee is not eligible for the
grant program from the Cummings Center Foundation or Eastern Bank. He will look into other bank
foundations that have branches in Salem.
b. Changing meeting date
The committee decided to adjust the regular meeting date to the second Monday of the month, with the
meeting time remaining at 6:30 p.m. The September meeting will be cancelled and, because the October
meeting day conflicts with Columbus Day, the October meeting will take place on Monday, October 5 th.
5. New business
Dominick shared that he has spoken with Superintendent Zrike, who will be appointing his designee to
the committee in the coming weeks. The other vacant seat has been advertised and at least one resident
has applied for the appointment. Dominick reached out to them but has not heard back yet.

Pursuant to Governor Baker’s March 12, 2020 Order Suspending Certain Provisions of the Open
Meeting Law, G.L. c. 30A, §20,and the Governor’s March 15, 2020 Order imposing strict
limitation on the number of people that may gather in one place, this meeting of the Salem
Scholarship & Education Committee will be conducted via remote participation to the greatest
extent possible. Specific information and the general guidelines for remote participation by
members of the public and/or parties with a right and/or requirement to attend this meeting can
be found on the city’s website, at www.salem.com.

If any public comment is permitted, members of the public who have “raised their hand” in
Zoom will be called on by the chair to offer comment. In order to raise a hand, member of the
public using the Zoom computer or phone application may click the “Raise Hand” button;
members of the public dialing in may press “*9” to raise their hand to speak.
No in-person attendance of members of the public will be permitted, but every effort will be
made to ensure that the public can adequately access the proceedings in real time, via
technological means. In the event that we are unable to do so, despite best efforts, we will post
on the city’s website an audio or video recording, transcript, or other comprehensive record of
proceedings as soon as possible after the meeting.
