Scholarship & Education Committee Meeting – Draft Minutes
Monday, January 9, 2023, 6:30 P.M., meeting held remotely
Members Present: Liz McGovern, Gabriel Yeager, Tyler Carlton, Lynne Mullen, Brian Eiermann,
Andrew Boucher, Cynthia Nina-Soto, Amy Stewart
Staff Present: Dominick Pangallo, Chris Sicuranza
1. Call to Order: 6:32 p.m.
2. Election of Chair: Cynthia nominated Amy for chair, seconded by Liz. Amy was elected chair of
the committee by a vote of 7-0-1. Cynthia volunteered to remain on as vice chair.
3. Approval of December 12, 2022 minutes: Approved 7-0-1
4. Financial Updates:
Education Fund Scholarship Fund
November receipts: $7.00 November receipts: $7.00
December 1 balance: $9,251.33 December 1 balance: $13,440.80
5. Old Business: none.
6. New Business
a. Logo contest: The committee set the deadline for the logo contest as June 30, 2023.
b. Review and vote on remaining Education Fund grant application: The committee
discussed additional information received from the Bentley Academy Innovation School
applicant for their grant request for a program with Salem Sound Coastwatch. The
committee members had further questions about the application and Amy offered to reach
out to the applicant to find out more about how many students would be served by the
program, when the program would take place, and if there were other funding sources that
they could secure to help make the program happen. The committee indicated that they
would be amenable to a special meeting to vote on the grant award, if timing is an issue for
the applicant.

Committee will be conducted via remote participation to the greatest extent possible. Specific
information and the general guidelines for remote participation by members of the public and/or

If any public comment is permitted, members of the public who have “raised their hand” in
Zoom will be called on by the chair to offer comment. In order to raise a hand, member of the
public using the Zoom computer or phone application may click the “Raise Hand” button;
members of the public dialing in may press “*9” to raise their hand to speak.
No in-person attendance of members of the public will be permitted, but every effort will be
made to ensure that the public can adequately access the proceedings in real time, via
technological means. In the event that we are unable to do so, despite best efforts, we will post
on the city’s website an audio or video recording, transcript, or other comprehensive record of
proceedings as soon as possible after the meeting.
