Discuss Memo Dated March 23, 2026 from Collins Center Project Team
It was confirmed that the Ad-Hoc Superintendent Search Subcommittee would select the
Screening Committee members and recommend them to the School Committee. The School
Committee will appoint the members.
The posting for the job vacancy was done on march 24, 2026. Collins Center representative
D
noted that this is the first time that the position has been translated into other languages in 17
years.
Discuss and Vote on Composition of Screening Committee
Chair Hoffman mentioned that they would prefer 9 people on the Superintendent Screening
Committee which would include two School Committee members, educators, caregivers, a
student and a community member. One of the Collins Center representatives mentioned that
there may be some pushback if there are more caregivers than staff on the committee. Collins
Center representatives suggested that the Superintendent Screening Committee should reflect
the demographics of Salem Public Schools.
Timeline Update
Chair Hoffman commented that the Ad-Hoc Superintendent Search Subcommittee would be
dissolved once the Superintendent Screening Committee members are selected. The
subcommittee members acknowledged that the timeline may need to shift a little bit in order to
allow more time for volunteers to apply for the Superintendent Screening Committee. The
Google form for the invitation to apply for the Superintendent Screening Committee will be
translated into Spanish and Portuguese, and posted by the end of the week.
The subcommittee noted that the kick-off meeting for the Superintendent Screening Committee
should take place prior to April vacation.
Member Miranda suggested that Member Byas work with the Collins Center representative on
the Google form for the Superintendent Screening Committee application. Chair Hoffman and
Member Miranda agreed that they would provide their edits individually to the Collins Center
representative, Mary Aicardi.
Chair Hoffman left the meeting at 6:13 pm.
