__________________________________________________________________________________________ Draft Meeting Minutes September 17th, 2015 7:05 pm 120 Washington Street, 3rd Floor Attendees: Jeff Cohen, John Hayes, Craig Thomas, Rishi Nandi, Jeff Barz-Snell Attendees(Other): Jeff Elie(City of Salem) Absent: Rick Nye Public in Attendance: Tom Gale Introduction – quick update on projects from Energy Manager  LED Streetlights Conversion - Swapping 3400 streetlights (all standard ones) to LED costs $1.1Million. Total savings $200K/ yr giving 4.4 year simple payback with lights having a 10 yr warranty. Using 3000k color temperature lights throughout City. Project to begin November 2015. Finish by end of calendar year 2015.  Municipal Solar – School Committee approved solar PV project on High School and Middle School. Tighe & Bond will be doing rooftop engineering structural analysis to show roofs can hold solar. Endless Mountain will be installing about 700kw systems on High School and Bentley School. Estimated completion by Spring 2016 General Discussion  Solar Salem discussion and next steps – Jeff Cohen, Salem Solar Coach, updated the committee on working with Salem Alliance for the Environment (SAFE) on a new SAFE Solar Salem program that brings more residential and commercial solar installations to Salem. Jeff let everyone know the kick-off meeting for the program would be October 13th, 2015. SAFE Solar is working with Community Green Energy, Boston Solar, and Endless Mountain Solar as preferred vendors and will offer unbiased consulting for people looking to put solar on their home or business. Rishi Nandi Sustainable Building presentation – Rishi showed a presentation he created for his architecture firm centered around sustainable buildings and how the City can think about implementing sustainable design standards for the planning purposes and implement these ideas into the Planning Board, Salem Redevelopment Authority, Zoning Board of Appeals, and any other City board that is involved in redevelopment in the City. New/Old Business  Climate Change Presentation: Rishi will be showing a presentation on climate change in honor of his last meeting with the RETF  Vertical Axis Wind Turbine proposal review: Discuss the viability of a vertical axis wind turbine project that could potentially be implemented as an alternative to a large scale horizontal axis turbine.
