He requested a 50/50 reforestation Program to replant trees throughout the City. Request was second by Councilmember Barrera. Councilmember McShane reported he attended the Monterey Bay Community Choice Power meeting, a tri-county agency tasked with the goal of increasing renewable energy by 200%. Councilmember Craig reported she attended the National Resource Network Conference in Washington, D.C. where they shared Salinas’ exemplary efforts in creating career pathways for youth. She added that she was joined by representatives of Salina Union High School District and Hartnell Community College to highlight their work towards diversifying the workforce in ag-technology and health care partnership within the City of Salinas Page 5 City Council Meeting Minutes - Unofficial May 16, 2017 community. Councilmember Craig stated she also met with Rico Hall of the Department of Justice where they discussed the future of the Community Alliance for Safety and Peace funding which will end in 2018. Additionally, she reported that she had an opportunity to meet with Congressman Jimmy Panetta’s office regarding ag-technology, homelessness issues and comprehensive immigration reform. In closing, she stated that she met with the Housing and Urban Development Department where they discussed future funding opportunities and the City’s efforts surrounding the coalition of homelessness. Councilmember De La Rosa reported she attended the Salinas Valley Solid Waste Authority/Salinas Valley Recycles scoping meetings to discuss the future of the transfer station and expressed concerns regarding the lack of attendance and public outreach. Councilmember Barrera announced he is hosting a luncheon on May 26 with the UFW at 118 E. Gabilan Street where they will be discussing the development of a Farmworker Community Center. Councilmember Barrera expressed appreciation in memoriam of Anthony Lacono, Steinbeck Library employee. He requested a moment of silence in honor of Mr. Lacono. Mayor Gunter appointed Scott Davis to the cannabis subcommittee to replace Councilmember Lutes. He appointed Councilmember McShane, Villegas and Barrera to the Immigration Subcommittee.
