The motion carried by the following vote: Ayes: 5- Commissioner Chaidez, Commissioner Tafoya, Commissioner Gutierrez, Commissioner Camacho and Fong Absent: 2- Commissioner Martinez and Commissioner De La Rosa ADMINISTRATIVE REPORTS City of Salinas Page 1 Library and Community Services Meeting Minutes - Unofficial February 14, 2024 Commission ID#24-071 Prevention & Wellness Grant Program Update Community Safety Administrator, José Arreola, presented the Prevention & Wellness Grant Program Update to the commission. Mr. Arreola reviewed the history of the grant program and its ongoing success. After City Council approved $300,000 to fund the grant for an additional year, six grantees were awarded up to $60,000 each for local programs supporting youth, vulnerable adults, and seniors. Upon motion by Commissioner Fong, seconded by Commissioner Chaidez, Administrative Report was received and accepted. The motion carried by the following vote: Ayes: 5- Commissioner Chaidez, Commissioner Tafoya, Commissioner Gutierrez, Commissioner Camacho and Fong Absent: 2- Commissioner Martinez and Commissioner De La Rosa COMMISSIONER COMMENTS / REPORTS Commissioner Tafoya reported his successful completion of a police ride-along in downtown Salinas. Commissioner Camacho reported her appreciation for Firehouse Recreation Center's Valentine's celebration and the Breadbox Recreation Center's teen nights at Christmas. She reported her appreciation for the preparation and response by the Park Maintenance team in the recent storms. She further reported her review of the progress of the renovation of the public bathrooms at Natividad Creek Park. She notified the commission of a planned cleanup at El Dorado Park in the next few weeks. She reported community feedback with overwhelming support of Parks and Community Services. Commissioner Fong reported that he continues to report issues to the city's website and that he advises community members to do the same. Chair Gutierrez-Garcia reported her appreciation for the preparation and response by the Park Maintenance team in the recent storms. She also asked for clarification on native plant installations. Director Lundquist explained that this is an effort by Sustainable Salinas. Chair Gutierrez reported her review of the Library's success with new programs and workshops for youth. The public may comment on scheduled agenda items as they are considered.
