630 East Hopkins City of San Marcos San Marcos, TX 78666 Meeting Minutes City Council Tuesday, January 9, 2018 8:30 AM T Bar M, 2549 Hwy 46 W., New Braunfels Council Visioning Workshop - Day 1 I. Call To Order With a quorum present, the visioning workshop of the San Marcos City Council was called to order by Mayor Thomaides at 8:39 a.m. Tuesday, January 9, 2018 in the Bluebonnet room at T Bar M Camps & Retreats, 2549 State Highway 46 W, New Braunfels, Texas 78132 II. Roll Call Present: 7- Mayor Pro Tem Lisa Prewitt, Council Member Saul Gonzales, Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Scott Gregson, Council Member Melissa Derrick, Council Member Jane Hughson, Mayor John Thomaides and Council Member Ed Mihalkanin 1. Hold discussion and participate in Fiscal Year 2018-2019 Visioning Workshop, topics discussed may or may not include or be limited to: growth, quality of life, economic development policies, transportation, community partners, outreach, future infrastructure and facility needs, beautification and community enhancement, enhancement of core services including future staffing and personnel needs, flood mitigation strategies, and provide direction to Staff. Mr. Patrick Ibarra with the Mejorando Group, provided an overview of the next couple of days and the desired results. The following is a summary of topics discussed during the workshop. Benefits from Good Government, Role of the Mayor , Role of the Council Members, Role of the City Manager, Role of the City staff, and the role of community members. The Council recessed for lunch at 11:55 a.m. The Council reconvened at 1:05 p.m. Bert Lumbreras, City Manager, provided the Council with a presentation reviewing his first year work plan. Heather Hurlbert, Director of Finance, provided the Council with a brief budget presentation. Mr. Ibarra discussed change as a Process, not an event, trends that are impacting San Marcos, and roles as a credible community builder. Adriana Cruz, President of the Greater San Marcos Partnership, provided the City of San Marcos Page 1 City Council Meeting Minutes January 9, 2018 Council with an economic development update. Mr. Ibarra led the Council and Directors through an exercise where they were placed into group and asked to draw an image of what they saw for the future of San Marcos and what mode of transportation was getting them there, the condition of that mode of transportation, who was driving that mode of transportation, who were the passengers, what the road blocks were in the future, and what the destination was. Each group then presented and explained their image. III. Adjournment.
