MEETING MINUTES Criminal Justice Reform Committee July 7, 2021 | 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. I. CALL TO ORDER Meeting was called to order at 2:04 p.m. by Committee Chair Baker. II. MINUTES • Consider approval, by motion, of the June 2, 2021 meeting minutes Motion made by Chair Baker, seconded by Mayor Hughson. All in favor, none opposed, motion passed. IV. PRESENTATIONS • “Mental Health Processes & Law Enforcement” (Chief Standridge) This presentation was delayed to future meeting due to time constraints. V. DISCUSSION ITEMS • Review & Discussion: VERA MOU (Chief Standridge) Chief Standridge presented findings from MOU research, sharing primary purpose of “reducing unnecessary bookings” and “In Our Backyard” program. Discussion of MOU in detail and requirements outlined in document. Need to clarify and possibly narrow scope to deal with Cite & Release data. Next steps: Chair Baker will compile a list of concerns to be reviewed by CJR members and then shared with VERA. VI. IDENTIFY AGENDA ITEMS FOR FUTURE MEETINGS | NEXT MEETING: 8.4.21 Committee members may provide requests for discussion items for a future agenda in accordance with Council Committee Procedures. No further discussion will be held related to topics proposed until they are posted on a future agenda.  • 5.5.21: Discuss SMPD Community Outreach plans/details.
