San Marcos Main Street Advisory Board
May 20, 2015 Main Street Program Office – 317 N. LBJ Dr 5:30 P.M.

1. Call to Order at 5:36PM
2. Roll Call
a. Molly Ann Garcia, Debra Harvey, Ralph Meyer, William Cunningham, Jean Baggett, Cindy Meyer
and Jude Prather in attendance
b. Staff Present: Samantha Armbruster,
c. Guests: Rachel Willis, SMPD Officer Meyers
3. Citizen Comment Period – n/a
4. Consider Approval of Minutes of April 2015 Meeting. Motioned by Debbie, Seconded by Ralph. All in
favor.
5. Standing Reports:
Engineering : n/a
Parking Manager/Patrol Report - Shooting in front of Showdown, suspect was later
apprehended. Not a life threatening injury. Uber already approved by Council.
Graduation and Cinco De Mayo was extremely busy, bars cut off entrance at 1:30am.
Students aren’t leaving as rapidly as previous summers.

o Sales Tax and HOT #’s are positive
o Promotion Committee to look into creating in-house brochure for Downtown San
Marcos events
6. Chairman’s Discussions: Swing on the Square recap meeting scheduled for Wednesday, May 27th to
discuss what can be done in future years to increase attendance.
7. Committee Reports:
Design Committee
a. Sign Grant Applications for Power Haus Equipment and House of Plumbing $1500 ( Debbie
motioned, Cindy seconded. All approved), Stonewall Warehouse $2000 (Debbie motioned, Jean
seconded. All approved.), Candy Sweets and Treats $2000 (Debbie motioned, Cindy seconded.
All approved), Dixie Cream $941.78 (Jean motioned, Bill seconded. All approved.)
b. Downtown Tour recap – Held at 6pm after the ribbon cutting on April 23rd, the tour was a
success. Attendees had great feedback.
c. Update on pedestrian safety – Meeting held downtown with SMEU, PARD, Dev Svcs and Main
Street present. Recommendation to replace 2 street lamps on each street around the square with
poles that have arms that extend over street for lighting, and additional lighting at each
intersection. SMEU has also corrected pedestrian signal issues identified around the square.
b. Promotion
a. Upcoming Events – Important Dates:
May 2-3 – Heritage Association Tour of Homes update. Added downtown loft to tour which brought a lot

of people down town and was well received.
May 15-17th – Swing on the Square – Lower attendance than usual but on budget. Weather played a role in
attendance and logistics the day of. Moving Gathering event to Black’s BBQ was well received.
September 18th – Texas State Wine Walk (looking for volunteers, adding brunch at Vault or Stonewall)
c. Organization Committee update by Debbie Harvey
a. Summer Main Street Training August 4-7th. Need volunteers.
b. Downtown Awards event scheduled for Oct 16th.Art Commission does their awards at the same
time, Organization Committee looking into possibility of combining efforts. Nominations will
kick off at Chamber Expo in late August.
d. Economic Restructuring
a. Placemaking efforts being considered - Kissing Alley, Hutchison Lot
b. Updated Work Plan being drafted
8. City Council Report – Council has identified downtown as one of the top 5 priorities for the coming fiscal
year. Council waiting for information and solutions for downtown draining issues.
9. Expenditure Report and Program report from Main Street – Samantha
a. Board and Commission Appreciation event May 28, 2015 5:30-7:30 at Courthouse
b. Staffing of Main Street Program – 2 interns have started. Main Street Program Coordinator
position is being filled asap.
