The Regular Meeting of the San Marcos Main Street Advisory Board October 17, 2018 Main Street Program Office – 317 N. LBJ Dr. 5:30 P.M. Vision Statement "To foster a downtown that is a unique and culturally vibrant destination, where local businesses thrive and people of all ages can connect, create and celebrate". Minutes 1. Call to Order meeting at 5:30 p.m. 2. Roll Call: Ramika, Linda, Lisa, and Kelly absent 3. Citizen Comment Period 4. Consider Approval of Minutes of September 2018 Meeting – Caitlyn motions to approve minutes, Sara Lee seconds, motion carries 5. Standing Reports:  Engineering – o CM Allen – Staff to confirm whether or not construction is on schedule  Parking Manager/Patrol Report  CVB  Downtown Association report 6. Chairman’s Discussions  Innovation District stakeholder meeting report – o Board Chair Kayli Head attended stakeholder meeting. o Meetings are held once a month, the first of which was two weeks ago. o Stakeholders have discussed Main Street “pillars” at meetings (concepts which are familiar and integral to Main Street Program). o Kayli would like to expand resources to downtown.  Reschedule November Board meeting & Organization Committee meeting – o Board meeting: Kayli proposes moving November meeting to Wednesday, Nov. 14. Sara Lee motions to move meeting to Nov. 14 at 5:30 pm at Main Street office. Ashley seconds. Motion carries. o Organization Meeting: Linda proposes moving committee meeting to Nov. 5, board agrees 7. New Business  Sights and Sounds  Biscuit Meeting - Oct. 24 –  Updates: Rebecca has reached out to five organizations to take the second weekend and no one is interested. Josie and Rebecca have communicated with S & S staff that Main Street is unable to commit to 2 weekends.  Ideas: o Invite Gary Job Corps to share work and profits. o Offer second weekend nights to different COSM boards and commissions  Sub-Committee Meeting on Oct. 24 from 12-1 p.m. at MS office to further discuss Sights and Sounds.   Order needs to be made before Oct. 31  Project Landmark –  Celebration of Hope: Open House Weekend on Oct. 20-21 from 12-3 p.m. at Cephas House.  Voting ends on Oct. 26  Ordered T-Shirts for event 8. Board approves o SMart Awards - Oct 11th @ 6:30pm, Centro  Strengthen existing relationships and create new partnerships to improve outcomes of Main Street initiatives  Cultivate and nurture passionate volunteers as Downtown champions Economic Vitality Committee Chair – Ashley McCafferty Meeting Time – 3rd Tuesday at 9am Work Plan Items -  Nurture connectivity, mobility and the creative community as economic drivers for Downtown  Create and strengthen resources available to Downtown stakeholders, entrepreneurs and micro businesses o Business log o Logging new business inquiries o Sales tax report – down 12%, all of downtown is down on sales o Heat Map/ Business Traffic Report  Educate and engage Downtown stakeholders on best practices for a cohesive and sustainable downtown economy Promotion Committee Chair – Kristan Alvarez Meeting Time – 2nd Wednesday at 10am Work Plan Items -  Strengthen Downtown cultural and intergenerational events through collaboration and marketing o CLPP launch, October 20th, 9:30am - 12:30pm Postponed due to weather and direction from CMO to rebrand o Open House Weekend - Historic First Baptist Church, October 20th - 21st , 12-3pm  Consider list of partners & collaborators o Downtown Trick or Treat - Saturday, October 27th, 12 - 3pm  Volunteers o Lost River Film Fest - November 1st - 4th  Different downtown businesses will be hosting events o Love Downtown Awards - Friday, November 9th, 6 - 8pm  Evaluate and expand traditional and innovative promotional strategies o Partners in Preservation - Historic First Baptist Church  New registration contest – additional $10,000  Two more contests  Market downtown culture to residents and visitors o Texas Downtown Association - Annual Conference packet ad Design Committee Chair – Caitlyn Strickland Meeting Time – 2nd Thurs. at 10am Work Plan Items -  Identify priorities and funding to improve the Downtown pedestrian experience a.
