1. CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order by Chair Bonos at 3:52pm.
2. ROLL CALL
Committee Member Anderson arrived at 4:02pm.

3. PUBLIC COMMENTS
None
4. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
August 27, 2018 Special Meeting Minutes
The minutes from the August 27, 2018 Special Meeting were approved as
submitted.
5. SCHEDULED ITEMS
5.1 Fire Response: Round One Selection Panel Recommendations
Staff will present the results from the selection process for round one of
the Fire Response project.
Recommended Action: Approve recommended projects
Staff reviewed the selection process for round one, including the selection criteria
and the selection panel members. Out of 15 applicants, the following four artists
and projects were selected for recommendation: Roman Cho, “Ashes Fell Like
Snow”, Jane Ingram Allen, “Living Quilt for Santa Rosa”, Carol Mancke, “The Land
and Me”, and Stefanie Nagorka, “Web of Dreams”.

Committee Member Anderson made a motion to approve the four selected artists
and projects. Darling seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
5.2 Project Updates
a. Meter Made
b. Courthouse Square
Recommended Action: Information only
Staff reported a delay in the completion of ‘Meter Made’ as the lead artist has been
traveling and the piece requires rewiring. Once completed, a plaque will be
installed, and an event will be scheduled, but the completion date is unknown at this
time.
A survey has been drafted for the Courthouse Square Public Art Project. It was
intended to be distributed at the Community Advisory Board open houses for
feedback about the project planning, but some of those meetings cancelled and
others had low attendance. Staff will send the draft to the Committee for perusal
prior to the next meeting.

Santa Rosa’s Tenth Street art compound, Los Angeles Arts District
Bonos-Art Trails preview exhibits at Gallery One, Corrick’s, Sonoma County
Museum’s “Lost Santa Rosa” and Sebastopol Center for the Arts

7. DEPARTMENT REPORTS
Staff announced that the Art Program has migrated from the Recreation and Parks
Department to Planning and Economic Development (PED). City Hall, Room 7 will
be the Art in Public Places (APPC) permanent meeting location moving forward.
The meeting time remains at 3:30pm. The recording secretary will continue to
assist until the end of the year, at which time PED will have own staff in place.
The Bud Snow mural is complete and a dedication event announcement will come
later. Staff pursued a Bloomberg Philanthropy Public Art Challenge Grant and
Santa Rosa is among 14 finalists from over 200 applications. Notification is due to
occur mid-November for the requested $350K for an artist residency program to
explore concepts of home and resiliency in the aftermath of the recent and
unprecedented wildfire disaster
8. ADJOURNMENT
Chair Bonos adjourned the meeting at 5:20pm. The next regular meeting of the Art
in Public Places Committee is November 5, 2018, at 3:30pm at City Hall, Room 7.
