CALL TO ORDER This meeting was called to order by Chair Bonos at 3:33PM. 2. ROLL CALL Present: 6 - Chair Nina Bonos, Vice Chair Lisa Puentes, Committee Member Katherine Anderson, Committee Member Monica Bryant, Committee Member Melanie Jones-Carter, and Committee Member Kristin Kiefer Absent: 1 - Committee Member Michelle Edwards Also present: Kelley Singleton, member of the Burbank Gardens Neighborhood Association; Judy Kennedy, Artist. 3. PUBLIC COMMENTS None 4. SCHEDULED ITEMS 4.1 Burbank Gardens Neighborhood Benches Kelley Singleton, member of the Burbank Gardens Neighborhood Association and artist Judy Kennedy will present a community art project proposed for two benches located in the neighborhood. The Transportation & Public Works Department has approved the benches for an art project. Recommended Action: Approve artwork design. Kelley Singleton, member of the Burbank Gardens Neighborhood Association and artist Judy Kennedy presented a community art project for two benches located in the neighborhood. The art on the benches will have a Luther Burbank theme. The Transportation and Public Works Department had already approved the benches for an art project. A motion was made by Committee Member Bryant, seconded by Committee Member Jones-Carter, that this Art in Public Places Agenda Item be approved. The motion carried by an unanimous vote. Recommended Action: Approve recommended projects. Staff presented the results from the selection process for round two of the Fire Response Project. Selected Artists: - Luba Zygarewicz: Risorgere (to rise again) o Requested funding: $3,300 - Teresa Camozzi: Remembering the First Year o Requested funding: $2,000 - Adrian Litman: Splash & Fire o Requested funding: $4,000 - Alejandro Torres & Theresa Pisani: Dawn of a New Day o Requested funding: $4,000 - Ashleigh Riggs: Beacon Obelisk: Life Grid o Requested funding: $4,000 A motion was made by Committee Member Anderson, seconded by Committee Member Bryant, that this Art in Public Places Agenda Item be approved. The motion carried by an unanimous vote. 5. COMMITTEE MEMBER REPORTS 5.1 Upcoming Events Chair Bonos spoke with Council Member Rogers. Mayor Schwedhelm appointed him as the organizer for the second anniversary of the fires. Council Member Rogers and Chair Bonos will be meeting the week of September first to discuss ideas. Bonos requested ideas from the Board. 5.2 Events Attended Anderson: - Sonoma County Museum- Artist Talk with Ned Kahn - Sonoma County Museum - Jazz night - Courthouse Square AIA Redwood Empire art sculptures exhibit - Land and Me Reunion City of Santa Rosa Special Meeting Minutes Page 3 of 4 Art in Public Places Committee Special Meeting Minutes - Final August 26, 2019 - Fulton Crossing / Rotary Club of Santa Rosa Sunrise Art Night Bryant: - Sonoma County Museum - Artist Talk with Maria de Los Angeles Bonos: - Sonoma County Museum - Kinetic Exhibit - Sonoma County Museum - Cannabis Exhibit - Sonoma County Museum - Maria de Los Angeles Exhibit - Santa Rosa Symphony - Concert on the Green Kiefer: - Shady Oak Barrel House artist gather. 12 artists had stalls displaying their art. - Sonoma County Museum- Artist Talk with Ned Kahn - Sonoma County Museum - Kinetic Exhibit - Courthouse Square AIA Redwood Empire art exhibit of the installations in Square. 6. DEPARTMENT REPORTS Staff presented the postcards for the upcoming show that the Public Art Program is organizing. The Sonoma County Residents Reflect on the 2017 Wildfires Exhibit being held at the Person Senior Wing on September 4 - October 10. The reception will be September 5, 2019. It is a joint event honoring the artists participating in the exhibit and the first free, public screening of “Last October.” Last October is a 50-minute documentary that captures experiences during and following the Sonoma Complex Fires from the perspective of several current and former City employees and officials who served as first responders, disaster service workers and community leaders. It will be screened publicly two other times: - September 12, 2019 at Third Street Cinemas. - September 17, 2019 at City Hall, Council Chambers. This will be in conjunction with the artist reception for Sketching Fire Stories exhibit. The sketches were done by Susan Cornelis, Carole Flaherty and others. The next regular meeting on September 2, 2019 is cancelled for the Labor Day holiday.
