1. CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order by Chair Puentes at 3:30PM.
2. ROLL CALL
Present: 5 - Chair Lisa Puentes, Vice Chair Kristin Kiefer, Committee Member
Monica Bryant, Committee Member Melanie Jones-Carter, and
Committee Member Nina Bonos
Absent: 2 - Committee Member Katharine Anderson, and Committee Member
Jeff Nathanson
Also present: David Ward, Public Art Project Manager
3. PUBLIC COMMENTS
None.
4. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
4.1 Approval of Minutes: November 18, 2019
The minutes from November 18, 2019 were approved as submitted.
5. SCHEDULED ITEMS
5.1 Upcoming Strategic Plan Discussion
Staff will provide an update on the strategic planning scheduled to
begin in early 2020 and facilitate a discussion on committee goals, roles
and responsibilities in the planning process.
Recommended Action: Information & Discussion.
Staff provided an update on the Strategic Plan. Staff shared the
planned engagement of Third Plateau as a consultant in the creation
of the plan.

5.2 2020-2021 Annual Work Plan Discussion
Staff will facilitate a discussion of program goals and project

opportunities to consider for the 2020-2021 Annual Work Plan. A draft
plan will be developed and brought back to the Committee for approval
at the February meeting.
Recommended Action: Discussion.
Staff facilitated a discussion of possible items for the 2020-2021
Annual Work Plan. Staff will provide a draft plan in February which
may include: the Strategic Plan, continuing projects such as
Courthouse Square, and Parking Garages, Coffey Park, Depot Park,
and on-going maintenance, as well as the potential addition of
temporary projects that activate Courthouse Square prior to the
installation of the permanent artwork.

5.3 Committee Training Feedback
Staff will collect feedback from committee members on a recent training
and answer questions.
Recommended Action: Discussion.
Committee provided positive feedback regarding the benefits of the
recent training.

5.4 Project Updates
Staff will provide updates on current projects.
Recommended Action: Information Only.
Staff provided updates on current projects including, Courthouse
Square, Coffey Park, and Fire Response.

6. COMMITTEE MEMBER REPORTS
6.1 Pecha Kucha: Sharing of art photos (max 20 slides shown for 20 sec.
each)
Jones-Carter: Shared photos from Soul of a Nation exhibit at the
deYoung. The exhibit features renowned artists, performers,

musicians, activists, civic leaders, and others at the forefront of the
Black Power movement.
Kiefer: Shared photos from Buenos Aires and Mendoza, Argentina
as well as Chilean Patagonia sharing the amazing diversity in artistic
expression.
Bonos: Shared photos of the Project: Water Light Plaza in Walnut
Creek, and artist booths in San Francisco with San Francisco Art
Commission logo.
6.2 Events Attended

6.3 Upcoming events
Bonos: Frida Kahlo exhibit at the de Young from March 21, 2020 -
July 26, 2020.
7. DEPARTMENT REPORTS
Staff will be gathering information on the status of the construction of
the fountain planned for Courthouse Square and will provide an
update to the Committee at the next meeting.
8. ADJOURNMENT
Chair Puentes adjourned the meeting at 5:05PM. The next regular
meeting of the Art in Public Places Committee is scheduled for
Monday, February 3, 2020 at 3:30PM.
