CITY COUNCIL MEETING CITY OF SARATOGA SPRINGS, NEW YORK SATURDAY, JANUARY 1, 2000 CASINO 2:00 P.M. PRESENT: Kenneth Klotz, Mayor Thomas Curley, Commissioner, Public Safety Michael Lenz, Commissioner, Finance Thomas McTygue, Commissioner, Public Works Bernard Mirling, Commissioner, Accounts STAFF PRESENT: Christine Gillmett, Deputy Commissioner, Finance Carol Kennedy, Deputy Commissioner Accounts Robert King, Deputy Commissioner, Public Safety William McTygue, Deputy Commissioner, Public Works Jeffrey Wait, City Attorney SWEARING IN The Honorable Douglas Mills administered the Oath of Office to the following Council members: Kenneth Klotz, Michael Lenz, Thomas McTygue, Thomas Curley and Bernard Mirling. He also administered the Oath of Office to Phil Klein and Anthony Scirocco, representatives to the County Board of Supervisors. CALL TO ORDER Mayor Kenneth Klotz called the meeting to order at 2:15 p.m. ACCOUNTS DEPARTMENT (00-001) Commissioner Bernard Mirling appointed Carol Kennedy as Deputy Commissioner of Accounts. He said Carol Kennedy brings a solid background of management to this position. FINANCE DEPARTMENT (00-002) Commissioner Michael Lenz reappointed Christine Gillmett as Deputy Commissioner of Finance. He said Christine Gillmett has proven herself as a great asset to the City and he was pleased to reappoint her. DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS (00-003) Commissioner Thomas McTygue reappointed William McTygue as Deputy Commissioner of Department of Public Works. Commissioner Thomas McTygue said he was now beginning his fourth decade working for the City and he was proud to do so. DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY (00-004) Commissioner Thomas Curley reappointed Bob King as Deputy Commissioner of Department of Safety. He too said that Bob King was a great asset to the City and was glad to reappoint him. MAYOR'S OFFICE (00-005) Mayor Kenneth Klotz appointed Linda Benton as his administrative assistant, Jeffrey Wait as the City Attorney, Anthony Izzo as the Assistant City Attorney, Nancy Butcher to the Planning Board and Chris Mathiesen to the Zoning Board of Appeals. Mayor Kenneth Klotz read the following statement: "Today, January 1, 2000, we begin a new year, a new century and a new millennium. As the new City Council for the City of Saratoga Springs, we enter this millennium with hope, with humility, with confidence and with commitment, to our City and to its residents. As elected officials we acknowledge our role as public servants, selected by and accountable to the people. While this new millennium is a new beginning for us, it is a beginning that rests on the rich fabric of our City's past. The nearby Battle of Saratoga played a crucial role in our nation's history over 200 years ago. We today are committed to the best tradition of American democracy: open government and citizen participation in community affairs. In this historic building we are poised between our treasured past and a bright and beckoning future. We look forward to this future with enthusiasm. I pledge the best efforts of this City Council for the well-being of the community in the coming two years." ADJOURNMENT Commissioner Thomas McTygue moved and Commissioner Michael Lenz seconded to adjourn the meeting at 2:25 p.m. Ayes all.
