On behalf of the Commissioner of Public Safety, Fire Chief Williams appeared before the Commission to request the transfer of Patrick Tobin, a Firefighter with the City of Troy, to the position of Firefighter with the City of Saratoga Springs. Chief Williams explained that due to unforeseen circumstances the current eligible list for Firefighter has been exhausted. Chief Williams explained that they have 58 budgeted position; 57positions are currently filled; 5 candidates have been hired (1 candidate withdrew and 1 resigned) which caused the additional hiring of 2 candidates. A vacancy causes the City approximately 24% in overtime per year. A Paramedic course is a 12 month course which includes class time and “on-the-job” training.
