Councilmember offered the following: A Resolution Authorizing the Sale of 3323 McDonald Avenue for $40,000 WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the City of Schenectady to sell parcel numbered SBL 60.78-1-3; and WHEREAS, there is no municipal use for the property: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT, D RESOLVED, that the City Council authorizes the Mayor to enter into a contract to transfer the RA title of parcel numbered SBL # 60.78-1-3 to Allah Noor and/or assign for the sum of Forty Thousand Dollars ($40,000.00); and be it further RESOLVED, that the terms of the contract for sale shall contain a clause requiring that purchaser pay $500 at closing for building, electrical, plumbing and other applicable permits, that FT rehabilitation of the property begin within thirty days of the purchase, and that total rehabilitation of the property, requiring compliance with the State Building Code and securing appropriate building permits with necessary inspections be completed within six months of purchase, as well as any other terms deemed necessary by the Corporation Counsel. Councilmember offered the following: A Resolution Recognizing October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month WHEREAS, when a family member is abused, it can have long-term damaging effects on the victim that may also leave a mark on family, friends, and the community; and WHEREAS, domestic violence is recognized as a pattern of coercive tactics which can include D physical, psychological, sexual, economic, digital, and emotional abuse, perpetrated by one person against an adult intimate partner, with the goal of establishing and maintain power and control over the victim; and RA WHEREAS, the problem of domestic violence is not confined to any group or groups of people, FT but crosses all economic, racial, gender, educational, religious, and societal barriers, and is sustained by societal indifference; and WHEREAS, victims should have help to find the compassion, comfort, and healing they need, and domestic abusers should be punished to the fullest extent of the law; and WHEREAS, the City encourages domestic violence victims and their families to seek assistance from appropriate victim services organizations and the New York State Domestic Violence Hotline (1- 800-942-6906); and WHEREAS, the City is committed to increasing public awareness of domestic violence and its prevalence, and to eliminating it through prevention and education: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT, RESOLVED, that the Mayor, Gary R. Councilmember offered the following: A Resolution Recognizing Italian-American Heritage Month WHEREAS, October 2023 is Italian-American Heritage and Culture Month. We recognize the enormous contributions the Italian and Italian-American people have made to this city, country and the world throughout our history, including generals, admirals, doctors, philosophers, statesmen, musicians, athletes, and Nobel laureates; and D WHEREAS, Italian and Italian-American Heritage Month is held to salute the Italian and RA Italian-American community and to exhibit appreciation for their culture and their heritage that have immeasurably enriched the lives of the people of this city, Nation and the world; and FT WHEREAS, the strength and success of Schenectady and the United States, the vitality of our communities, and the effectiveness of our American society depend, in great measure, upon the distinctive and sterling qualities demonstrated by people of diverse races, heritages, and ethnicities, exemplified by members of the Italian and Italian-American community, who share with us their rich and unique heritage; and WHEREAS, over five centuries have passed since Christopher Columbus, a son of Genoa, Italy, first set sail across the Atlantic Ocean, followed by countless individuals of Italian descent seeking a new life in America. Italian-Americans faced, and continue to face, religious and ethnic discrimination and occasionally brutal violence. The first national Columbus Day was proclaimed in 1892 by President Benjamin Harrison after rioters in New Orleans lynched eleven Italian immigrants the year before. In 1937, President Franklin D. Roosevelt proclaimed Columbus Day as a national holiday; and WHEREAS, many outstanding men and women of Italian descent have enriched our Nation’s own history, whether defending freedom on the front lines of battle or participating in the daily 29 workings of our democracy, Italian-Americans have clearly demonstrated their love of freedom and self- government and their profound respect for the rights and dignity of every individual. Their patriotism -- coupled with their deep faith and devotion to family life -- has truly strengthened the fabric of our society; and WHEREAS, Italian-Americans make up one of the largest ethnic groups in the United States; and WHEREAS, The Order Sons of Italy in America (OSIA) is the largest and oldest organization for Italian heritage in North America, encouraging the maintenance of Italian culture and language, as well as the assimilation into American social and political life; sponsoring a wide variety of cultural, educational and charitable programs in furtherance of its mission, as well as countless Italian heritage events; and D WHEREAS, The Gabriele D’Annunzio Lodge received its charter on March 28, 1915 and continues to be a true asset to the community, generously serving the City of Schenectady, Schenectady RA County, and beyond; and WHEREAS, many men and women of Italian descent settled in the City of Schenectady and the City continues to be home to a proud and vibrant Italian-American community that has enriched our FT City and left an enduring mark that continues to this day: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT, RESOLVED, that the Mayor, Gary R.
