Under this grant the City and County of Schenectady must submit a joint application outlining initiativeslprograms that will further the Department's mission in preventing or reducing crime and violence. Under this year's JAG program (FY 2015) the City and County are eligible to share $47,765.00. Overview of the Edward Byme Memorial Justice Assistant Grant Program: The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program is the primary provider of federal criminal justice funding to state and local jurisdictions. JAG funds support all components of the criminal justice system, from multijurisdictional drug and gang task forces to crime prevention and domestic violence programs, courts, corrections, treatment, and justice information sharing initiatives. JAG funded projects may address crime through the provision of services directly to individuals andlor communities and by improving the effectiveness and efficiency of criminal justice systems, processes, and procedures. The grant requires "Government Body" approval of the application. The grant also requires the public posting of the application, providing the public with an opportunity to comment on the grant. The grant was posted on the Police Departmeneb sebsite on May t itth, 2015 and remained there for 30"- days. The @grant requires no financial match by the City of Schenectady. Recommendation: Adoption by the City Council allouring the application to be submitted. Legere Restoration, a Schenectady based remodeling, construction and restoration business, has begun an estimated $2 - $4 million investment renovating the building while retaining its historic qualities, updating heating and cooling, lighting, egress, the sprinkler system and other infrastructure and amenities. The project includes upgrades including installation of a removable turf surFace so that the facility can host soccer, lacrosse, baseball, field hockey, volleyball and basketball leagues, events and tournaments.
