LEGISLATION REQUEST FORM
COMMITTEE ASSIGNMENT: COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT & PLANNING
DATE: June 19,2017
TO: COUNCIL MEMBERS
FROM: Mayor Gary McCarthy
SUBJECT: Mohawk Harbor Large Vessel Dockage CFA
Background Information:
The project consists of constructing a minimum of approximately 75 feet of vessel
dockage, and will enhance the pedestrian trail from the waterfront at Mohawk Harbor
with information and way finding signs to direct visitors to downtown attractions, events,
restaurants and businesses, historic sites, and other points of interest. Kiosk and signage
will include Erie Canal information as part of the canal's centennial celebration.
A public access easement will be completed as part of project;
EvaluationlAnalysis:
The New York State Department of State Local Waterfront Revitalization Program
(LWRP) and New York State Canalway Grant Programs requires the City of Schenectady
to be the lead applicant, and it appears that continued progress on the waterfront
redevelopment project will drive further economic development. The City will seek NYS
funding for eligible project costs, with the required minimum match of 25 % provided by
the project developer. Total local project match will be provided by Metroplex and the
Developer of the site.
