DEPARTMENT OF ENGINEERING
CHRISTOPER WALLIN, P.E., CITY ENGINEER
COMMITIEE ASSIGNMENT: DATE: January 7, 2019
TO: City Council
FROM: Christopher R. Wallin, P.E., City Engineer ~
SUBJECT: Award the Bid and Contract for the IIPIN 1760.15, Schenectady Bridges:
Element Specific Bridge Repair, City of Schenectady, Schenectady County,
New York" to Bette & Cring Construction Group in the amount of $477,278.00
TO BE PLACED ON COUNCIL AGENDA OF: January 14, 2019
Background Information:
The Capital District Transportation Committee approved the City's application for the
"Element Specific Bridge Repair, Altamont Ave over CSX/Amtrak & Pedestrian Bridges over 1-
890." The City then hired MJ Engineering and Land Surveying, Pc. After inspection by MJ
Engineering of the two pedestrian bridges over 1-890, it was determined that it would be
more economically feasible to remove the two bridges rather than repair or replace them.
The Engineering Department held a public meeting on November 9, 2017 about the closure
ofthese pedestrian bridges and City Council then passed Resolution No. 2017-338 in support
of the removal of these bridges.
Evaluation/Analysis:
The Engineering Department solicited and received bids for "PIN 1760.15, Schenectady
Bridges: Element Specific Bridge Repair, City of Schenectady, Schenectady County,
New York". A low, responsible bid was received on December 19,2018 from Bette & Cring
Construction Group of Latham, NY in the amount of $477,278.00. Funds for work will be
charged to the Capital Budget code that is set up specifically for this project.
Recommendation:
Authorize the Mayor, or his deSignee, to enter into an Agreement with NYSDOT for the "Element
Specific Bridge Repair, Altamont Ave over CSX/Amtrak & Pedestrian Bridges over 1-890, City of
Schenectady P.I.N. 1760.15"
