City of Slidell, Louisiana Planning Commission Minutes June 14, 2021 @ 7:00 p.m. Council Chambers, 2045 2nd Street, Slidell, LA 1. Call to Order and Roll Call. Meeting called to order by Chairperson Hilts at 7:00 p.m. Commissioners Present Commissioners Not Present Staff Present Mary Lou Hilts, Chairperson Gayle Green Melissa Guilbeau, Planning Director Richard Reardon, Vice Chair Tim Rogers Patrick Collins, Planner Landon Washington Lance Grant Michael Newton 2. Pledge of Allegiance 3. Minutes. Motion by Mr. Reardon to approve minutes of May 17, 2021 as written; Mr. Washington seconded. A vote of 5 YAYS, 0 NAYS, 0 ABSTAIN approved the minutes. 4. Public Hearing a. A21-01: A request to annex property located 1700 Shortcut Hwy; identified as Lot 10A, Sq. 4, Pine Shadows Subd., St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana; into the City of Slidell Chairperson Hilts opened the public hearing. No one from the public spoke and Chairperson Hilts closed the hearing. Chairperson Hilts asked for the staff’s recommendation. Director Guilbeau stated that staff recommends approval. Mr. Reardon made a motion to recommend approval of the annexation which was seconded by Mr. Washington and passed by vote of 5 YAYS, 0 NAYS, 0 ABSTAIN. b. S21-02: A request to revoke the entire length (about 550 feet) of unimproved John St right-of- way from Old Spanish Trl southward; and to subdivide four parcels with 4.32 acres and the revoked John St right-of-way; located on the southwest corner of Old Spanish Trail and Faith Dr, and bounded on the west by Reine Ave ; into one lot Chairperson Hilts opened the public hearing. Mr. Jeff Schoen, representing JMWL Co and Mr. Wilson Lafoe, requested a single lot of record, the revocation of a section of John St., and the zoning designation of C-4 for the entire lot. The commission discussed the possible uses for the property – a gas station or a convenience store were mentioned as possibilities. Chairperson Hilts closed the hearing and asked for the staff’s recommendation. Director Guilbeau stated that staff recommends approval on the condition that the City Council revoke the unimproved John St right-of-way. Mr. Washington made a motion to approve the subdivision and recommend approval of the revocation which was seconded by Mr. Newton and passed by vote of 5 YAYS, 0 NAYS, 0 ABSTAIN. Director Guilbeau stated that the consultant is continuing public outreach, that the website is available, and that the plan is progressing. 7. Adjournment.
