MP – been very busy but everything is going well. Need to follow up on the burned out
house on the street. Would like to meet with the State Fire Marshall to find out what’s
going on. The fire happened in the Spring and it is still under State investigation.
CU – on Saturday June 22nd, hosting Juneteenth Experience at George C. Wright Jr. Park;
plans on having events throughout the year. This is a free and open to the public event. TG
said the SHS students could have an art show.
AC – rec’d confirmation for Carry the Load event on 5/3. The team will start off at the VFW
at 8 a.m. This is to remind everyone the meaning of Memorial Day. Originally started in
2011 as a road march in Dallas. The guys wore heavy packs for each person they wanted to
remember. Last year, the team walked from VFW, to Smyrna Food Lion, to the Cheswold
Wal-Mart and continues down. Trying to raise money to help support veterans, veteran’s
families, first responders, etc. in the form of scholarships, placements, support dogs, etc.
Several organizations gave donations that came to about $1,500.
Feb. 6 is the first meeting
4. Old Business
MP – art pod update? TG said it can’t be painted until the weather warms up. Sherwin-
Williams and Snow’s Painting have donated paint. Now it’s just waiting for the weather and
getting the kids together. For now it will remain at Smyrna High School.
5. New Business
a. Red Sand Project – human trafficking awareness. At a meeting TG went to, Smyrna’s
awareness was graded at F. Kate at SPD is on the Governor’s group/task force. Red
sand is provided and poured into the cracks of sidewalks, to symbolize that no one
will fall into the cracks and there are safe havens, (i.e. police department). If there
are 5-6 locations, there can be resource officers at these locations. School district
can be involved and the kids who join can tell their families and friends. It will help
people open up and speak up. We had an business in town, which was busted on
HT, and the young people involved were helped and are now successful. Would like
to maybe get the Boys & Girls Club involved, (Pat S said that it sounded good).
Needs to find out from Kate what day is good for this event, or if we can work with
other towns/organizations. Find out what the milestone days are for the Project.
CU said that ‘on watch’ is a free, online, site that gives awareness to HT.
