Call to Order – 6:04p 2. Minutes from 4/17/2024 meeting – Mike, Corrine, all approve 3. Updates from Committee Members - Mike – wanted to remind everyone that we need to get along, move forward Arlene – good turn out for Carry the Load. Lots of appreciation and support. They are still traveling to Dallas and should arrive the Friday before Memorial Day. The VFW was coined by the team, which is a great honor. She’s working with another organization called Passed the Torch, for Veterans. It’ll be their 2nd annual event, held in Townsend at Fire Base Lloyd. Wal-Mart gave a $2k donation for 2025’s Carry the Load. There was an article in the State News about CtL. Evie – calendars are going along fine but wanted to discuss a concern. Was under the impression that this was a community calendar of events that are like 1 and done, but some businesses are providing a lot of events, and it feels like we’re helping with advertising. Tabi said she understood, but she was asked by some of the businesses with help on getting their things out. Tabi said that she will talk with Walt (IT) to figure out how to promote more businesses and their events. Carol said that maybe the SDRA can help. Tabi said that parameters could be worked out. June 6-August 16, she’ll be out of the country. Tabi said that Walt is working on an events email that Evie will have access to. Evie would like to share the file somehow. Perhaps via our OneDrive Shared folder. Tabi – going to events and focusing on some town things. 4. Old business a. Special Olympics – Gerald Brown Tabi spoke on this on his behalf. He would like to have bocci (sp?), cornhole, etc., at GCW park, sometime in August. He’s trying to find an centralized area and events. He’ll be in touch when he gets more details from the Special Olypmics. b. Re-enactment at Belmont Hall – Carol Binns Event will have some artisans, food vendors are lined up, there will be a 3 piece band, wood carver Rick Shuman. She’s trying to get a fabric maker/designer on board, along with some others she’s reached out to. c. Carry the Load – Arlene Mankin spoke about this in the member updates d. Smyrna at Night – Councilwoman/P&R chairwoman Tabi Gott This is the one event that the Town is moving forward with that we can give to the community for free. There was discussion on sponsors and vendors. e. Art trailer update, hash tag needed – Ms. Dagley This is just waiting for a hashtag. It will end up remaining at the high school where people can take photos. The hashtag needs to reflect the town. It will be brought to Smyrna at Night. #smyrnasoars – motion if this is available to go to Council. Carol & Arlene 5. New business a. Juneteenth – Councilwoman Dr. Corrine Upshur Will be at GCW Jr. Park, 2p-6p, on Saturday June 22. Will have a lot of things: food vendors, craft vendors, community outreach. Asked about a food truck; she would like at least 2. Several names where thrown out for follow up. b. Community groups join meeting and calendar Discussed earlier c. Calendar QR code and website front page access – Walt (IT)/Danielle (staff liaison) Tabi said Walt is working on some things, including a QR code on the phones. Working on getting some film wrap with the QR code as well so it can go on things. d. Red Sand project Previous meeting with the School District was cancelled due to other obligations. Working on how many project boxes will be needed. Arlene asked about “The Sound of Freedom” movie. It’s based off a true story that follows children being saved from trafficking. Tabi will have a follow up on Friday. e. Policies We will review and bring forward the suggestions/changes to Charter and Review, who will then take it to Mayor & Council. Charter and Review won’t be meeting probably until January 2025. Tabi asked Danielle if she could send over the ordinances regarding the parks. 6. Other committee business – none 7.
