Village of South Amherst Board of Cemetery Trustees Meeting 2/08/2023 Andrew Johnson called the meeting to order at 6:00 pm Board Members present: Andrew Johnson, Rosemary Leshinski, Marilyn Makruski Village Council Liaison: Not Present Visitors: Mayor Leshinski, Emil Ruth of GoGreen Landscaping Agenda Andrew Johnson asked if there were any additions to the agenda Two items were added: 1) Ohio Dept of Commerce filing notification 2) Swinehart gravesite maintenance inquiry. Rosemary Leshinski moved to accept the agenda. Marylin Makruski seconded. The roll was called in favor. Meeting Minutes Rosemary Leshinski moved to accept the minutes from the January 11th and 14 th, 2023 meetings. Marilyn Makruski seconded. The roll was called in favor. Visitors Emil Ruth attended this meeting to discuss the road construction contract (ref. Old Business) and Keith Swinehart’s request for landscaping certain graves (ref. New Business.) Reporting – Financial and Other UAN Financial Reports for January 2023 were presented for review. Ref. Exhibit A. Paula Knodel presented the current list of burials and lot sales for 2023. Ref Exhibit B. Rosemary moved to accept the presentation of these reports. Marilyn Makruski seconded. The roll was called in favor. Old Business New Road Construction – Emil Ruth presented an updated proposal for the new road construction. The proposal was discussed. Marylin Makruski moved to accept the contract the bid amount of $45,615.98. Rosemary Leshinski seconded it. The roll was called in favor. Paula Knodel will forward the final contract to the Record’s Clerk requesting that an ordinance be prepared and sent to the village council. Once a construction date is determined, the Board wants letters sent out to the residents whose property the road will follow behind. Columbarium Project – The Board reviewed the most current contract received by Franklin Monument. Paula Knodel needs to design a deed and an application form to accompany it. Kevin Hipp is working on a drawing for final presentation and vote by the Board. The Board needs to work on proposed advertising once the project has been approved. This item will be left open for next month’s meeting. Pioneer Cemetery Fencing – Eight sections of fence were delivered to Banks Mfg. this week. They will sand blast and paint the sections. The Board will contract with someone to reinstall the fencing. More sections will be sent over to Banks Mfg. as the budget allows. Sign Designs – Bulletin Boards and Walkway Entrance - Will be decided on by Spring. Cemetery Maps – The cost of copying the cemetery maps is fifty cents a page. Marylin Makruski moved to have all the large maps copied. Rosemary Leshinski seconded. The roll was called in favor. Cemetery Photos – Andrew Johnson brought in two of the memory cards from the four cameras posted in the cemetery. The other two have been stolen. Andrew is donating replacement cards and will be moving the cameras. Marshall/Harless Monument – Milano Monuments came out last week and moved this monument to its correct location. Paula added the movement of the footer to Spring workorder list. Military Marker Footer Pricing – The final contract from GoGreen has the installation price of granite footers at $50 for the gravel bed. Installation price of a cement footer for the bronze plaques is $135. The GoGreen contracts will have their final reading and vote at the February 13, 2023, meeting. Andrew Johnson moved to have the cemetery customer pricing changed to reflect those amounts. Rosemary Leshinski seconded. The roll was called in favor. New Business Memorial Placement Rights – The Board received a request from a family wanting to put a monument on a grave. The wife of the deceased person refuses to place a monument there. The Board advised that ownership of the grave and its rights follows the line of inheritance. The wife needs to sign off on her rights over the grave in order for the family to place a monument there. Paula Knodel will follow up with the family on this issue. Tiara Krieg Request – Paula Knodel received a text from Tiara Krieg regarding an unused family plot. She wanted to know if it could be transferred to a friend of hers. Paula responded asking that her request be sent via email to the cemetery clerk’s email address. Nothing has been received from her. If the request is received, the Board will likely approve repurchasing the lot from Tiara on the condition that her friend purchases it at the current price. Vicki Frasher Request – The Board received a request from the family of Estill Frasher to bury his wife’s cremains with him. His wife (Vicki’s mom) was 92 years old when she passed and was not estranged from Estill at the time of his death. The Board has no issues with this burial. Vacation Coverage – Alex Tuggle currently backs up Paula Knodel for vacations. Alex is expecting a baby soon and will not be available for coverage after April. No current office worker is interested in backing up the position. The Board wants to discuss coverage again at next month’s meeting. Ohio Department of Commerce Filing – The Board received paperwork from this agency as required to be updated every three years. Currently Paula Knodel and David Leshinski are authorized to sell. Andrew Johnson asked that his name be added as well in case it is needed on an emergency basis. Andrew Johnson moved to adjourn. Marylin Makruski seconded. The meeting was adjourned.
