Administrative - Opening 1. Land Acknowledgement We would like to acknowledge that we are on the traditional land of the first people of Wabanakek or Dawnland. The Passamaquoddy, Micmac, Penobscot, Abenaki and Maliseet collectively represent the Wabanaki Confederacy. We acknowledge their ancestors- past, present and future. We honor with gratitude the land itself and this calls us to commit to learning to be better stewards of the land we inhabit and invite all people to share in the work. 2. Adjournment Page 3 of 5 South Portland Conservation Commission Meeting Minutes – June 15, 2026 • Present: Adrienne Jalbert, Caleb Abbott, Dave Cohen, Peter Wilson • Absent: John Lorenc • Staff Present: Kevin Anderson, Aubrey Strause • Land Acknowledgement read by Caleb Abbott • Minutes from March 23rd: o Adrienne moved to approve minutes. o Caleb seconded. ▪ All voted in favor. • Public Comment o No public comment. • Aubrey Strause (WRP) o Presented on three Freshwater Wetlands Compensation Fund projects (see slides) o Barberry Creek Sediment Sampling – estimate increased from $2k to $4.5k ▪ Have not moved forward yet as working through contract details. o Improve existing Parks Dept Access to Petrlik Upper Field ▪ Currently mowing equipment must drive through streams – requesting funding for a utility bridge over Kimball Brook. ▪ Approx $5.8k ▪ SPCC discussed and agreed it sounds like a good idea to support this project. o Adrienne moved to support the $5.8k FWCF funding request for the Petrlik property utility bridge. ▪ Dave Cohen seconded. ▪ All in favor. o Hinckley Pond Dam ▪ Upper Hinckley pond spillway is failing and needs repair or replacement. Spillway collapse could impact the dam. ▪ Asked Sebago Technics to prepare an estimate for a Dam Stability Evaluation, Cost Estimation, and Risk Assessment. ▪ Sebago wants to use Kleinschmidt Group to assess the dam. ▪ Requesting $42k for overall estimate and assessment of the dam/spillway. ▪ Aubrey will follow up with more info. • Staff Updates o Vote on CPC New Liaison Page 4 of 5 o Peter moved that Dave Cohen represent SPCC on the CPC. ▪ Adrienne Seconded. ▪ Caleb, Adrienne, and Peter voted in favor. • Events & Outreach o Earth day resource fair was a success. o Kevin will work on getting us a new sign. • Open Space Acquisition Committee Report o Voted to purchase a piece of land – parcel on Alfred St. o Land off New York Ave is under contract and looking to develop land. o Guests coming to next meeting in August. • City Council/Planning Board/Staff Updates o • Next Meeting o Monday, July 20th o Monday, August 17, 2026 o Monday, September 21, 2026 o Monday, October 19, 2026 • Meeting Adjourned at 7:45pm. ▪ Caleb moved to adjourn. ▪ Adrienne seconded. o Vote: ▪ All in favor.
