SSLCPD Policy: 423 -Portable Audio/Video Recorders This policy does not apply to mobile audio/video recordings, interviews or interrogations conducted at any South Salt Lake Police Department facility, undercover operations, wiretaps or eavesdropping (concealed listening devices). Additional guidance regarding the use of body-worn cameras during the execution of a warrant is found in the Warrant Service Policy. Included in Policy: (a) All enforcement and investigative contacts including stops and field interview situations (b) Traffic stops including, but not limited to, traffic violations, stranded motorist assistance and all crime interdiction stops (c) Self-initiated activity in which a member would normally notify Dispatch (d) Any other contact that becomes adversarial after the initial contact in a situation that would not otherwise require recording (e) Any use of force (f) Dispatched calls for service (g) Execution of a warrant Potential Additions:  Vehicle and foot pursuits.  Any citizen contact that could result in a report being taken, including telephone and text. (Ex: Welfare Checks)  When advising an individual of their Miranda Rights and/ or arrests.  Subject, victim, or witness interviews unless otherwise directed.  During interrogations and interviews. (Inside the station has its own policy)  Any other contact that becomes adversarial.  All searches unless otherwise noted in this document. January 2024 Updated and Revised Standing Rules for Ride along participation Ride-Along Training: As written in the City of South Salt Lake ordinance 2.70.040. B. Members of the board are required to participate annually in a minimum of two ride-alongs with law enforcement agencies in the State of Utah, one of which must be with the South Salt Lake Police Department. A Ride-along is defined as a minimum of two (2) hours with an on-duty police officer. Ride- along training may be done sequentially on the same day, as long as the CRB member rides with two (2) separate on-duty police officers.
