City of South St. Paul Parks & Recreation Park & Recreation Advisory Commission Meeting Tuesday, April 12, 2022 6:00 p.m., City Hall ! Minutes The Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission meetingw as called to order by Josh Regan at 6:00 pm at South St. Paul City Hall. Introductions Sadie Patet welcomed as new Commission Members 1. Approval of Meeting Minutes Approved March minutes 1st Lori 2nd Mike Lindamood Members Present: Josh Regan, Sadie Patet, Mike Lindamood, Lori Miller, Nicole Hall, Cretia Radman 2. Old Business A. Mrs. Miklya reported back that the Sea Quest Field Trip and Bowling and Skating Field trip partnered with West St. Paul and Mendota Heights went smooth and the children enjoyed their adventures. Mrs. Miklya encouraged everyone to join the Giant Egg Hunt April 16th at Kaposia Park. The Lions are a large sponsor for this event and volunteers would be greatly appreciate. We expect 300-600 people at the event. Mrs. Miklya is also hiring for summer positions, Day Camp Counselors, lifeguards, and concession stand workers. B. Doug Woog Arena Updates: Mrs. Young stated Heat System was approved and installation will start when all the parts are delivered. C. Wakota Trailhead & Overlook update – No new updates D. Mrs. Miklya is working diligently on hiring lifeguards to hopefully open both pools this season. E. Mrs. Young relayed all administration help Parks and Recreation and Finance are located on the 3rd floor of City Hall and Mrs. Miklya and Mrs. Young are housed in the Council Chambers. The Fire department took the fitness equipment apart and moved it to the Fire Bay. C. Mrs. Young reported LSOHC has 100 million is available for buckthorn resoration cleanup. If granted the city will us this at Sidles Pod. D. Park Assignments were distributed. 3. Garden Plot update: Mrs. Young reported all garden plots are assigned and spoken for. B. City Goals: City Staff and Council met at the airport to present future department goals. The top 5 goals that council approved on were: 1. Parks and Recreation Master Plan 2. City Building Master Plan 3. Undertake Crime Prevention Initiative/Proactive Policing 4. Continue to Prioritize Infrastructure Needs 5. Develop Strategies to implement Housing Master Plan Parks Commission recommendations for Parks Master Plan: Mike Lindamood recommended starting a Northview project, with renovating the whole Park including the pool as a new Aquatic Center. Lori Miller inquired about the phase 3 of Kaposia Landing. Will the city continue with the original plan of an amphitheater, or will they modify the original idea? Cretia Radman expressed how regular Inver Grove Heights Skate Park is utilized throughout the summer. She recommended we host more special events and community activities at the parks. Sadie Patet would like to see a splash pad installed for the younger generation. Josh Regan would like to see an event including council and the public to volunteer at a community trash pickup. He would also like to see a public spokes person to market our events, activities, and community parks to the residents. He believes working with the schools to market our activities would be a useful strategy to get more participation in our activities and special events. Mrs. Young explained the school district requires us to advertise our programs on Peach Tree which cost the City $75 a flier. The parents must then log into Peach Tree to find any fliers. Mrs. Young relayed that the Parks Department replaces the archery targets every two years and they are replacing two volleyball nets at Lorraine Park and Kaposia Park. C. New Employees: April 25th Jeffery Hines the new Assistant Finance Manager. 5.
