Star Idaho Historical Committee Meeting Minutes
November 8, 2023
Those Present – Chip Sitton, Chairman; Nathan Day, Vice Chairman, Jane Raynor, Lynn Davis
and City Liaison Shawn Nickles
Committee Members Absent - None
Call to Order – Chip called the meeting to order at 6:56 p.m. in the first-floor conference room
at Star City Hall.
Introduction – Shawn Nickle, Planning Director & Zoning Administrator, introduced himself as
the Committee’s newly assigned liaison with the City of Star.
Review of Minutes – Chip noted that the September 13th meeting minutes were previously sent
for review. Hearing no proposed revisions, the minutes were approved as submitted. In lieu of
the Committee meeting on October 11, 2023, the City of Star Oral History Introduction
occurred in Council Chambers at 7:00 PM on that date.
Member Reports - With the first round of oral history documentation behind us, Committee
members discussed the prioritization of Committee activities, moving forward. On a motion
made by Lynn and seconded by Nathan, the Committee
VOTED to prioritize Committee activities in the following order:
1. Potential Grange Hall acquisition or some alternative building/location
2. Star Area barn documentation/preservation
3. Additional Oral History documentation
4. Oregon Trail documentation
5. History and impact of canal construction on the Star Area
Process Determination - Those present discussed the need to establish a chain of custody and
process for acquisition of artifacts that might be acquired by the Committee, moving forward.
11070 State Street Property
Shawn informed the Committee that the home and property at the NE corner of State and Poplar
Streets had been sold to a buyer that also purchased several contiguous lots to the east, where
mobile homes are currently situated. It was anticipated that the homes would be razed and the
property developed. Chip committed to contacting the outgoing owner of 11070 State Street to
see what the Committee might do to somehow memorialize the structure if it is to be razed in
the near future.
Adjournment – There being no further business to discuss, the meeting adjourned at 7:35 p.m..
