AGENDA ITEMS:
A. Memorial Day Recap
Giallombardo thanked those members that volunteered to help coordinate the
parade and added that everything went well. She added that while she helping
with the staging so wasn’t able to witness the ceremony, but said that she
heard several positive comments. Ray Nadolski sent a nice thank you email
and said he was honored to act at Grand Marshal.
Burns noted that there were people selling flags along the parade route, which
slowed down the procession, and also said that individuals were campaigning.
Giallombardo added that the application states that campaigning isn’t allowed,
but it’s difficult to control people along the route. Also, groups should not be
selling flags; Giallombardo will add this to the application going forward.
Popko stated that cars with the Shriners group were back-firing during the
ceremony, and asked if they could be staged somewhere else. Giallombardo
stated that they would consider other locations, but could not think of a spot at
the time. She stated that she would ask the Shriner organization to refrain from
running their vehicles during the ceremony.
B. Review of Parade Bands and Floats
Giallombardo showed photos of all of the floats that were in the parade:
Moslem Shriners, American Polish Century Club, Girl Scout Troop 76912,
Romeo Peach Queen and Boy Scout Troop 154. Members voted to award 1st
place to Girl Scout Troop 76912 and 2nd place to the Witamy float from Polish
Century Club. Giallombardo will mail a letter of congratulations, a certificate
and their check to each awardee.
Giallombardo showed video clips of each band: 1st Michigan Colonial Fife &
Drum, Ford High, Moslem Shriners, Sterling Heights High, Cousino High,
American Polish Century Club, Ecorse High and Chandler Park Academy.
Members voted for Cousino for 1st place, and Ecorse for 2nd place.
Giallombardo stated that in the past, Community Relations ordered trophies
for the winning bands, but it was hard to get the band director to come to City
Hall, since it’s the end of the school year. Giallombardo stated that she will
order a flat type of trophy, and will mail them along with their letter and
certificate.
C Sterlingfest
Giallombardo stated that there is a total of 98 artists, and 6 kid artists. She said
that she will have a list of all of the artists, in order of their booth numbers. She
asked members to pick their favorites by noon on Saturday. The vendor that
receives the most votes will be invited to return in 2023 for free. The second
place vote-getter will be invited back at half of the booth fee.
Giallombardo added that members are welcome to volunteer in other areas if
they are available, which would include booth sitting for artists or sitting at the
information table. Giallombardo said to let her know if you’re available and
when, and she will keep a schedule.
Giallombardo will mail parking passes to committee members that will allow
parking behind City Hall.
OLD BUSINESS:
Giallombardo stated that there are available kits for any members wanted to
stencil the storm drains in their neighborhood. Each install only takes about 15
minutes. Follow up with Giallombardo if interested.
