STERLING HEIGHTS BEAUTIFICATION COMMISSION
MEETING MINUTES
Monday, November 5, 2012
Chairman Wawrzyniak called the meeting to order at 6 p.m.
Commissioner’s present:
Henrietta Baczewski, Sharon Mason, Aaron Wawrzyniak, Jennifer Abed, Gary Isom, Steve
Duncan, Theodora Netza
Commissioner’s absent:
Jazmine Early, Ruthann Schinzing, Jim Francis, Josh MacKinnon, Darlene MacLeod
Other present:
Steve Guitar, Community Relations Director
Karen Kazmer, Citizen Services Specialist
Motion to approve Beautification Commission meeting minutes, as amended, from the
September 4, 2012 meeting made by Sharon Mason.
Seconded by: Jennifer Abed Ayes: all Nays: none
Chairman Wawrzyniak welcomed Theodora Netza to the Beautification Commission.
Commission members introduced themselves and reviewed the efforts of the Beautification
Commission.
Agenda Items:
A. Review of 2012 Beautification Awards
Chairman Wawrzyniak stated the beautification award ceremony was another
success and residents like the recognition given. A thank you was sent to Eckert’s
Greenhouse for the donation of gift cards for all award winners.
B. Holiday Party
Aaron Wawrzyniak will host the holiday party for the Beautification Commission.
Saturday, December 1, 2012, 7 p.m.; members are asked to bring a dish to pass.
C. Fire Station #5 Landscaping
Firefighter Mark from Station 5, contacted Community Relations requesting
assistance with "sprucing up" the landscaping in front of Fire Station #5. Sue
Giallombardo contacted Beautification Commissioners and Jennifer Abed was
able to assist. Jennifer and her husband dug out perennials and delivered to
Station #5. The Commission will invite Firefighter Mark to the plant exchange
held in May so that the landscaping can be enhanced further.
D. BCSEM Heritage Communities Luncheon
Sterling Heights Beautification Commission is joining Utica and Shelby
Township’s Beautification Commission to host a BCSEM Luncheon on Thursday,
September 19, 2013. It will be the BCSEM’s 50th Anniversary. Representatives
from all three communities will once again meet on November 13, 2012 to
discuss and plan the luncheon. Commissioner Baczewski will represent the
commission and will report with decision.
- Luncheon will be catered; a RFP will be made.
- Mayors from all three communities will address the attendees.
- Topic of discussion to be determined.
Old Business:
A memorial plaque for Jim Dunlop will be made and placed in front of the tree planted in front
of the Library by the Beautification Commission in celebration of Arbor Day. The Library will
order the memorial plaque and coordinate a presentation. Family members of Jim Dunlop, along
with commission members of the Beautification Committee, will be invited.
Motion to adjourn the meeting of the Beautification Commission at 6:45 p.m. made by Jennifer
Abed.
