B. Adopt A Road 2013 Dates
Wawrzyniak proposes four clean ups for 2013. He will craft a
sign up sheet wherein Commissioners can volunteer for a couple
of clean-ups a year. He said that each clean-up should only require
4-5 people.
Isom asked that the schedule include two Saturdays and two
Sundays to allow greater flexibility in scheduling volunteers.
The dates selected for 2013 are:
Sunday, June 2
Saturday, July 13
Sunday, Aug. 18
Saturday, Sept. 28
The group of volunteers that sign up for each clean-up will
determine the start time for each event.
A reminder that the Beautification Commission’s Adopt a Road
section is along Dodge Park Road from Metro Parkway to
17 Mile Road.
C. BCSEM HERITAGE COMMUNITIES LUNCHEON • Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013
Baczewski alerted the Commission that the Beautification
Commission of Southeast Michigan Luncheon, hosted by
Sterling Heights, Utica and Shelby was rescheduled from
Sept. 19 to Thursday, Sept. 26 due to a previous engagement
being held in the Senior Center.
It will be the BCSEM’s 50th Anniversary. Representatives from
all three communities will once again meet in February to discuss
and plan the luncheon. Commissioner Baczewski will represent
the commission and will report updates as they become available.
- Luncheon will be catered; a RFP will be made.
- Mayors from all three communities will address the attendees.
- Topic of discussion will center on the three communities’ common
asset – the Clinton River with a detailed accounting of Macomb
County’s Blue Water Iniative, stressing the recreational
opportunties presented by the Clinton River.
Old Business:
Commissioners asked about the status of the America In Bloom
program, originally brought to the group and supported by
Karl Eckert.
Guitar explained that, due to staff and budget cuts within the
Community Relations Department, a wide-ranging program
with various reporting mechanisms cannot be accomplished
at this time. It was suggested that the Beautification Commission
reexamine this project in the future.
New Business:
A question was posed to the exact date of the 2013 Plant Exchange.
Guitar stated that the event is slated for Saturday, May 11.
Commissioners suggested that the hours of the Plant Exchange be
changed from 10 a.m. to Noon to somewhat earlier…perhaps to
coincide with the 8 a.m. opening of the Treasure Hunters’ Market
being held that same day.
Guitar said he would add it to the formal agenda for discussion
in February.
Adjournment:
Motion to adjorn the Beautification Commission meeting at
6:48 p.m. made by Jennifer Abed.
Seconded by: Gary Isom Ayes: all Nays: none
