STERLING HEIGHTS BEAUTIFICATION COMMISSION
MEETING MINUTES
Monday, March 2, 2015
Vice Chairman Gary Isom called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m.
Commissioner’s present:
Henrietta Baczewski, Mary Calabro, Steve Duncan, Gary Isom, Darlene MacLeod,
Sharon Mason, Ruthann Schinzing, Kate Tuttle-Sniecinski and Ann Williams.
Commissioner’s absent:
Janis Adams, Paola Colombini and Erin Younan.
Other present:
Sue Giallombardo, Neighborhood Services Specialist
Bridet Doyle, Community Relations Director
Approval of Minutes:
Motion to approve Beautification Commission meeting minutes from the March 2, 2015
meeting made by Mason.
Seconded by: Baczewski Ayes: all Nays: none
Agenda Items:
A. Election of Officers (Chairperson, Vice Chairperson)
Duncan nominated Isom for Vice Chair; Isom declined.
Isom and Baczewski nominated Mason for Chairperson; Mason declined.
Mason nominated Schinzing for Chairperson; Schinzing declined.
Isom made a motion to table the election of officers to the April meeting;
Seconded by: MacLeod Ayes: 5 Nays: 3 Motion Approved.
B. 2015 Snowman Contest Judging
Members voted on 24 contest entries; the winner was Natalie Graham.
Giallombardo will contact her family and invite them to the April meeting so
that they can be presented with a certificate and $25.00. Giallombardo will
also send letters to all participants and prepare a media release.
C. Adopt a Road dates for 2015
Commission members are committed to clean alongside Dodge Park Road
between 17 Mile and Metro Parkway. Members meet at 9:00 a.m. and
usually go to breakfast afterwards. Isom agreed to pick up bags, vests and
litter pokers from Community Relations.
The following dates are tentatively set for future adopt-a-road clean-ups:
o Saturday, June 6 (Rain make-up on June 13)
o Saturday, July 18 (Rain make-up on August 1)
o Saturday, September 12 (Rain make-up on September 19)
o Saturday, October 17 (Rain make-up on October 24)
Mason and Schinzing are able to attend the clean-up on June 6.
Old Business:
Duncan asked Giallombardo to copy attached documents into the body of
the e-mails, as he is not able to open attachments.
New Business:
Giallombardo stated that the next quarterly BCSEM meeting will be on
March 19th, at 6:30 p.m. at the Clinton Macomb Library. The invitation
was passed around, there is no charge for this meeting. Members are
encouraged to attend.
Baczewski mentioned that there is a new picture of Mayor Notte on the
wall outside City Council chambers; she asked what has happened to all of
the awards and accolades that have been given to the boards and
commissions. Giallombardo stated that the wall is going to be a tribute to
Mayor Notte. Doyle added that city administration is looking for an
appropriate place to hang the awards and will follow up.
Isom stated that it was pretty warm at last year's Memorial Day Parade,
and asked if the commission members could possibly order new shirts to
wear at city events. Giallombardo will bring different options and pricing
to the April meeting.

Motion to adjorn the Beautification Commission meeting at 7:15 p.m. made by Mason;
seconded by Willaims. Ayes: All Nays: None
