STERLING HEIGHTS BEAUTIFICATION COMMISSION
MEETING MINUTES
Tuesday, September 4, 2018
Chairperson Gary Isom called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m.
Commissioner’s present:
Henrietta Baczewski, Anita Blanco, Steve Duncan, Manny Gonzales, Nancy Kijek, Gary
Isom, Sharon Mason, Ruthann Schinzing, Joyce Tye
Commissioner’s absent:
None
Other present:
Dawn Schultz, Citizens Services Specialist
Agenda Items:
A. Approval of 2018/2019 Meeting Dates (see attached)
Schultz distributed the regular meeting dates and asked if any member would like
to make changes to the dates. Schultz noted that the January meeting is scheduled
for January 7nd, due to Monday being New Years Eve.
Baczewski noted that there was a date for June, which we do not meet in. Schultz
took off the June date.
Motion to approve the 2018-2019 dates made by Kijek.
Seconded by: Duncan Ayes: all Nays: none
B. 2018 Beautification Awards Jurying
Schultz displayed photos of 47 homes, 8 multi-family properties, 3 businesses, 2
churches; and asked commission members to select their favorites in each of the
categories. Members voted and the following properties were voted as Best of the
Best: 3521 Leason Rd, Arden Courts Memory Care Community, St Jane Frances
de Chantal Catholic Church and Penna's of Sterling.
Schultz stated that she will send out congratulatory letters and reminded members
that the regular October meeting is cancelled. Members are invited to attend the
City Council meeting on October 2 at 7:00 p.m. Schultz will purchase doughnuts
and cider for award winners and guests.
Old Business:
Baczewski mentioned that everyone loved Sterlingfest, but the information booth
was in a poor location.
Isom added that the hospitality suite was not accommodated for volunteers at all.
New Business:
Mason stated that the plant from the plant exchange this year is growing great.
Blanco motion for a 6:15 p.m. start because she works in Detroit and has a hard
time making it by 6:00 p.m. Mason said that we can start the meeting at 6:00 p.m.,
but it’s ok if she comes a little late. Isom and Schultz provided their cell phone
numbers to Blanco if she needs to call if she will be too late.
Schultz stated that Debbie Travis and Britney Koski have resigned and two new
members will be elected.
Schinzing asked if we could all take a group picture at the beautification awards.
Isom says that we will.
Adjournment:
Motion to adjorn the Beautification Commission meeting at 6:40 p.m. made by
Schinzing; seconded by Duncan. Ayes: All Nays: None
