Hobig had sent over a few different companies that make interpretive signs via
email before our meeting. Bondarek reached out to the companies for pricing and
narrowed it down to the most economical company. She then presented photos as
well as a pricing guide of different types of interpretive panel signs that the
beautification commission could purchase with the revenue money they made
from hosting the BCSEM luncheon last fall. The group discussed that the signs
could be at the library children’s garden, the monarch garden at the Nature Center
or in Dodge Park. The group will vote on purchasing them at the March meeting.
B. Budget
Old Business:
At our last meeting Burns talked about possibly sponsoring a city cleanup event.
Bondarek talked to the youth advisory board liaison and she suggested that we
partner with the Clinton River Watershed Council, as they hold events in Sterling
Heights throughout the year and are always looking for volunteers to help.
Bondarek showed the group different color choices for polo’s that we may order.
The group decided that a forest green color would look nicest. This is something
we may order in the future.
Bondarek talked to Troy that works for the Parks and Recreation department and
is the main contact for the Dodge Park Farmers Market. She told Troy how
beautification commission members suggested that we host a native plant sale on
a day of the farmers market. Troy suggested that we could possible hold the sale
on the “fall day” event which happens in September. They have not scheduled out
the fall day event yet and he will reach out once they do.
New Business:
Hobig shared that Sterling Heights has 39 waystations. Most of which are more
on the East side of the city. The West side of the city could use more.
