CITY OF STERLING HEIGHTS MINUTES OF SPECIAL MEETING OF CITY COUNCIL TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 12, 2013 IN CITY HALL Mayor Richard J. Notte called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. Mayor Notte led the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag and Mark Carufel, City Clerk, gave the Invocation. Council Members present at roll call: Deanna Koski, Richard J. Notte, Joseph V. Romano, Maria G. Schmidt, Michael C. Taylor, Barbara A. Ziarko. Council Member absent: Paul Smith. Also Present: Mark Vanderpool, City Manager; Jeffrey Bahorski, City Attorney; Mark Carufel, City Clerk; Madeline L. Ranella, Recording Secretary. APPROVAL OF AGENDA Moved by Koski, seconded by Romano, to approve the Agenda as presented. Yes: Koski, Romano, Schmidt, Taylor, Ziarko, Notte. Absent: Smith. The motion carried. 1. To receive the results of the Board of Canvassers (City Clerk) City Clerk Mark Carufel read the results of the Board of Canvassers of the County of Macomb: Mayor Notte received 16,129 votes and was elected as Mayor. Councilman Michael Taylor received 13,172 votes, highest voter getter for City Council and was elected as Mayor Pro Tem. Doug Skrzyniarz received 12, 968 votes and was elected as Councilman. Councilwoman Deanna Koski received 12, 284 votes and was elected as Special City Council Meeting Tuesday, November 12, 2013 Page 2 Councilwoman. Councilwoman Maria Schmidt received 12,226 votes and was elected as Councilwoman. Councilwoman Barb Ziarko received 12,211 votes and was elected as Councilwoman. Councilman Joe Romano received 11,646 votes and was elected as Councilman. Other candidates Nate Shannon received 10,351 votes and Councilman Paul Smith received 8,467 votes. The City of Sterling Heights millage passed with 12,121 yes and 8,997 no votes. 2. Recognition and Remarks – Current City Council There were no remarks made at this time. 3. Swearing-In Ceremony and Reorganization of the 2013-2015 City Council. Honorable Michael S. Maceroni administered the Oath of Office to Mayor Notte and the City Council members. 4. Recognition and Remarks – New City Council Each of the newly elected City Council members thanked the voters of Sterling Heights for their votes and show of support by passing the millage proposal. They also thanked their family and friends for their support during the campaign process. Mayor Notte stated, although he ran unopposed in the election, he was involved in the process, especially with the Police and Fire millage. He thanked the residents for their support of the Police and Fire Departments and their votes. COMMUNICATIONS FROM CITIZENS Mr. Nate Shannon – Congratulated the Mayor and City Council members on their victory last Tuesday.
