CITY OF STERLING HEIGHTS CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION, ACT 78 MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF FEBRUARY 6, 2019 The regular meeting of the Civil Service Commission, Act 78, was held in Conference Room 201, City Hall, 40555 Utica Road, Sterling Heights, Michigan. 1. Call to Order. The meeting was called to order at 11:03 a.m. by Chair Terri Jarema. 2. Roll Call. Present: Chair Terri Jarema, Commissioner Jerry Griesbeck (via conference call) Commissioner Kevin Conlan (via conference call) Absent: None Also present: Melanie D. Ryska, City Clerk; Kate Baldwin, Human Resources and Benefits Manager; Don DeNault, City Attorney; Sergeant David Allen. 3. Approval of Agenda. Moved by Griesbeck, supported by Conlan, to approve the agenda as presented. Yes: Conlan, Griesbeck, Jarema The motion carried. 4. Approval of minutes of regular meeting of October 6, 2018. Moved by Griesbeck, supported by Conlan, to approve the minutes of the October 6, 2018 meeting as presented. Yes: Conlan, Griesbeck, Jarema The motion carried. 5. Review and approval of new Police Officer Eligibility list. Commissioners were provided with a new Police Officer Eligibility list, effective February 6, 2019 through February 5, 2020. Moved by Griesbeck, supported by Conlan, to approve the Police Officer Eligibility List effective February 6, 2019 through February 5, 2020. New Business. HR/Benefits Manager Baldwin noted that they will need to establish a new Firefighter Eligibility list soon. Administration will be proposing some changes to the current requirements and will request a meeting in March. Sergeant Allen noted that while there were nearly 300 applicants for the police officer list that passed with an 80% or higher, most many of them were eliminated because they did not meet all the qualifications or did not follow through with required documentation. Administration has been discussing the possibly of raising the requirement to 85%. 8. Adjourn.
