CITY OF STERLING HEIGHTS CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION, ACT 78 MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF NOVEMBER 15, 2022 The regular meeting of the Civil Service Commission, Act 78, was held in Conference Room 106, City Hall, 40555 Utica Road, Sterling Heights, Michigan. 1. Call to Order. The meeting was called to order at 2:05 p.m. by Chair Terri Jarema. 2. Roll Call. Present: Chair Terri Jarema (Sterling Heights, MI) Commissioner Dan Media (Sterling Heights, MI) Absent: None. Position vacant due to the resignation of Kevin Conlan. Also present: Melanie Ryska, Clerk; Don DeNault, Assistant City Attorney; Kate Baldwin, Human Resources Manager; Kaitlin Lee, Human Resources Coordinator; Shawn Allen, Fire Chief of Operations; Mike Amormino, Fire Chief of Training; Jason Bisdorf, Police Sergeant; Scott Lucas, Civil Service Member Applicant. 3. Approval of Agenda. Moved by Media, supported by Jarema, to approve the agenda as presented. Yes: Jarema, Media The motion carried. 4. Approval of the minutes from the meeting of August 31, 2022 Moved by Media, supported by Jarema, to the minutes from the meeting of August 31, 2022. Yes: Jarema, Media The motion carried. 5. Review and approve Police Officer eligibility list Moved by Media, supported by Jarema, to approve the Police Officer eligibility list effective November 15, 2022. Review and approve Firefighter eligibility list Moved by Conlan, supported by Jarema, to approve the Firefighter eligibility list effective November 15, 2022. Yes: Jarema, Media The motion carried. 7. To consider appointment of new member Scott Lucas, former Sterling Heights Police Officer, has expressed interested in serving on the Civil Service Commission. The third member of the Commission is appointed by the first two members. Moved by Jarema, supported by Media, to appoint Scott Lucas, retired Sterling Heights Police Officer, as a member of the Sterling Heights Civil Service Commission to a term ending August 15, 2027. Yes: Jarema, Media The motion carried. Clerk Ryska administered the Oath of Office to new Commissioner Lucas. 8. Communications from Citizens There were no communications from citizens. 9. New Business. None. 10. Adjourn.
