CITY OF STERLING HEIGHTS MINUTES OF THE ELECTION COMMISSION APRIL 3, 2017 Location: Conference Room 202, City Hall, 40555 Utica Road, Sterling Heights, MI 48313 1. Meeting called to order and roll call Chairman Carufel called the meeting to order at 10:06 a.m. Commissioners present: John Gardiner (via phone); Joseph Niman, Jr.; and Mark Carufel, City Clerk. Also present: Melanie Ryska, Deputy City Clerk 2. Approval of Agenda. Motion by Gardiner, seconded by Niman, to approve the agenda as presented. Yes: All Motion carried. 3. Approval of meeting minutes of February 27, 2017. Motion by Niman, seconded by Gardiner, to approve the meeting minutes of February 27, 2017 as presented. Yes: All Motion carried. 3. To appoint election inspectors for the May 2, 2017 Warren Consolidated Schools District Special Election. Chairman Carufel explained that the election inspectors recommended for appointment are for the most part inspectors that have worked numerous elections. Precincts will be staffed with 4 or 5 inspectors, depending on number of registered voters in the precinct. Motion by Gardiner, seconded by Niman, to appoint election inspectors for the May 2, 2017 Warren Consolidated Schools District Special Election, and to authorize the City Clerk to add additional inspectors as necessary. Yes: All Motion carried. 4. To appoint election inspectors to Receiving Board for the May 2, 2017 Warren Consolidated Schools District Special Election. Election Commission April 3, 2017 Page 2 Chairman Carufel explained that he is recommending three (3) receiving boards, two to work at the court to help process the precincts as they report, and one to process the two Absent Voter Counting Board precincts at the Library. Moved by Niman, seconded by Gardiner, to approve three (3) receiving boards and to approve the list of election inspectors appointed to the Receiving Board for the May 2, 2017 Warren Consolidated Schools District Special Election. Yes: All Motion carried. 5. Communications from Citizens. None. 6. Old Business. Deputy Clerk Ryska provided the Commission with an update on the anticipated new equipment, indicating that new equipment will not be rolled out by the August Primary date because the County Clerk missed the March 10th deadline to make a decision. Local clerks are encouraging the County Clerk to make a decision by April 12th so new equipment can be rolled out for the November Local Election. 7. Adjourn. Moved by Gardiner, seconded by Niman to adjourn the meeting Yes: All Motion carried.
