City of Sterling Heights ETHNIC COMMUNITY COMMITTEE Official minutes of the Thursday, June 4, 2015 regular meeting. MEMBERS PRESENT: Sharron Allen Mohammed Alomari Jasmine Dolfus Ann Jerzowski Stojadin Naumovski Andrew Pulford Iqbal Singh MEMBERS ABSENT: Omie Brooks Susan Kattula OFFICIALS PRESENT: Citizen Services Specialist Sue Giallombardo Community Relations Director Bridget Doyle 1. Call to Order 2. Roll Call 3. Approval of Agenda: MOTION by Allen, SECONDED by Jerzowski. Approved 6-0 4. Approval of Minutes: MOTION by Naumovski, SECONDED by Alomari. Approved 6-0 5. Communication from Citizens  Jasmine Dolfus, the newest member to the committee, introduced herself and stated that she is excited to be a part of the Ethnic Community Committee. Dolfus added she has worked as a 'workforce inclusion specialist', and added that it's a passion of hers in the workforce, so she wanted to bring that to her personal life as well, by joining the committee. 6. Communications from the Sterling Heights Police Dept.-Sgt. Linda Deprez - None 7. Agenda Items A. Nauturalization Ceremony  Giallombardo stated that the committee is once again sponsoring the Naturalization Ceremony and asked that members please try to attend. The ceremony takes place at the library, in the Programming Center, on Friday, July 25 at 10:00 a.m. There is a short reception following, outside in the Children's Garden. Giallombardo will be purchasing cake, fruit trays and other desserts. Giallombardo added that over 40 individuals will be taking the oath, so there should be a good crowd. B. Sterlingfest Participation  Giallombardo stated that there is a sign-up sheet for volunteering at the Ethnic Community Committee table. Only two members have signed up to date.  Allen suggested that they have a clipboard to write down pontential sponsors for upcoming events.  Jerzowksi asked if the committee would be selling "One City, Many Cultures" t- shirts. Giallombardo stated that there is not a lot of extra money in the escrow account, so there is no budget to order more shirts. Giallombardo added that she would have Community Relations Director Bridget Doyle talk to the Finance Director about getting a larger budget for the committee.  Giallombardo will e-mail the participation form and Allen stated that she would like to see more members volunteer their time, as it doesn’t look good when the table is empty. 8. Receipt of Correspondence: None 9. Old Business:  Allen thanked everyone for participating in the Memorial Day parade and noted that they had plenty of candy. Jerzowski stated that her neighbor was very proud to carry the banner and walk with the committee. Naumovski stated that he was unable to attend due to his health condition but appreciated all who attended the event. Pulford added that we would like to install a better sound system in his truck and make a bracket to hold the banner. Allen suggested magnetic signs for the parade vehicle, showcasing the Ethnic Community Committee. Giallombardo said she would order them through the city's sign shop. 10. New Business  Alomari stated that Ramadan starts June 17th, and continues for 30 days. He added that there may be a lot of dinners after fasting and suspects a lot of traffic and special events throughout the evenings  Allen stated for the record, that she would like the keep the Cultural Exchange in the month of March. This item will be added to the September agenda. 11. Adjournment. Meeting adjourned at 7:05 p.m.
