Library Board of Trustees Minutes of Meeting February 20, 2012 Sterling Heights Public Library 40255 Dodge Park, Sterling Heights, MI 48313 586-446-2665 I. Call to Order Meeting was called to order by Don Schinzing at 5:30 p.m. II. Roll Call Members Present: Josephine Berthet, Susan Biolchini, Dave Brown, Mary Lou Metzger, Don Schinzing Members Absent: none Staff Present: Tammy Turgeon, Library Director III. Approval of Agenda Biolchini made a motion to approve the Agenda, seconded by Brown. Motion carried. IV. Approval of Minutes Brown made a motion to approve the minutes of the meeting on January 23, 2012, seconded by Berthet. Motion carried. V. Monthly Reports, Statistics, and Correspondence A. Building-Wide Stats – FY2011 / FY2012 Board reviewed statistics. January 2012 circulation was up by 87 items compared to January 2011. This is the first month of an increase this fiscal year compared to last year. Database/Website/Catalog Searches continue to increase over last year. B. Monthly Issues – January 2012 Board recognized the popularity of the Chinese New Year programs. After-School Space is still doing very well. C. Compliment/Complaint Forms Board reviewed compliments and complaints. Many positive comments were received about the Valentine’s Day History program, Family Movies, Chinese New Year craft, and the train theme story time. The complaints about the Friends Bookstore were referred to James. The Barron’s complaint is being reviewed by Turgeon and staff to determine if we can keep more issues available. The complaint about the copier being attached to the print system is unavoidable unless we leased another copier. VI. Suburban Library Cooperative The Sirsi Voice Automation system has been having problems making calls to residents for overdues/holds/fines. SLC is looking at replacement of the system. VII. Friends of the Library A. Bookstore Sales Board reviewed the bookstore sales numbers through February 4, 2012. B. Quarterly Budget Report Board reviewed the Friends Quarterly Budget Report ending December 31, 2011. The Friends will forward all information to the auditor for fiscal year 2011. VIII. Unfinished Business A. Survey of Residents Turgeon is still working on the survey. IX. New Business A. 2011 Staff Recognition Metzger made a motion to recognize Mike Elgert for his excellent work, seconded by Berthet. Motion carried. B. 2011 Volunteer of the Year Biolchini made a motion to recognize Lori Rice as the 2011 Library Volunteer of the Year, seconded by Brown. Motion carried. C. Quiet Study Area Metzger made a motion to approve creating a quiet study area by the Adult Services Workroom, seconded by Berthet. Motion carried. X. Communication from Citizens None XI. Adjourn Motion was made by Berthet to adjourn, seconded by Biolchini. Motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 6:20 p.m. Next meeting is March 19, 2012 at 5:30 p.m.
