Library Board of Trustees Minutes of Meeting March 19, 2012 Sterling Heights Public Library 40255 Dodge Park, Sterling Heights, MI 48313 586-446-2665 I. Call to Order Meeting was called to order by Don Schinzing at 5:30 p.m. II. Roll Call Members Present: Susan Biolchini, Mary Lou Metzger, Don Schinzing Members Absent: Josephine Berthet, Dave Brown Staff Present: Tammy Turgeon, Library Director III. Approval of Agenda Metzger made a motion to approve the Agenda, seconded by Biolchini. Motion carried. IV. Approval of Minutes Biolchini made a motion to approve the minutes of the meeting on February 20, 2012, seconded by Metzger. Motion carried. V. Monthly Reports, Statistics, and Correspondence A. Building-Wide Stats – FY2011 / FY2012 Board reviewed statistics. February 2012 circulation was up compared to February 2011. Database/Website/Catalog Searches continue to increase over last year. Program attendance continues to be strong. Many publishers are currently not selling eBooks to the libraries because they feel there will be a loss of sales. The eBooks currently available on our Overdrive system are limited, but the checkouts are continuing. B. Monthly Issues – February 2012 Board reviewed the monthly issues report. Board requested that the statistics section not be shaded. C. Compliment/Complaint Forms Board reviewed compliments and complaints. Many positive comments were received about the Pokémon programs, book club programs, computer classes, and a compliment for Alice Cook. VI. Suburban Library Cooperative Turgeon attended the Public Library Association through the Suburban Library Cooperative. VII. Friends of the Library A. Bookstore Sales Bookstore sales for 2012 are starting out strong. VIII. Unfinished Business A. Survey of Residents Turgeon is still working on the survey. IX. New Business A. Request for Reconsideration of Library Material A request for reconsideration of a children’s book was received by a resident and reviewed by the Materials Selection Committee. The committee recommended that the book remain in the library’s collection. Biolchini made a motion to keep the book “Bears” by Ruth Krauss in the collection, seconded by Metzger. Motion carried. Turgeon will inform the resident of the decision. X. Communication from Citizens The library’s budget hearing is on April 24, 2012. XI. Adjourn Motion was made by Metzger to adjourn, seconded by Biolchini. Motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 6:15 p.m. Next meeting is April 16, 2012 at 5:30 p.m.
