Library Board of Trustees Minutes of Meeting May 21, 2012 Sterling Heights Public Library 40255 Dodge Park, Sterling Heights, MI 48313 586-446-2665 Call to Order Meeting was called to order by Don Schinzing at 5:30 p.m. Roll Call Members Present: Josephine Berthet, Susan Biolchini, Dave Brown, Mary Lou Metzger, Don Schinzing Members Absent: Staff Present: Tammy Turgeon, Library Director Approval of Agenda Metzger made a motion to approve the Agenda, seconded by Biolchini. Motion carried. Approval of Minutes Biolchini made a motion to approve the minutes of the meeting on April 16, 2012, seconded by Brown. Motion carried. Monthly Reports, Statistics, and Correspondence A. Building-Wide Stats – FY2011 / FY2012 Board reviewed statistics. PC Usage statistics are down drastically due to the problems with Comcast Internet access that continued through April and into the beginning of May. A new router, a new modem and an increased speed to the line have hopefully solved the problem. Turgeon will ask about any fiber capabilities in the city’s future. Ebooks continue to be checked out, but publishers are making it more difficult for iPad users to access Kindle ebooks. B. Monthly Issues – April 2012 Board reviewed the monthly issues report. The increase in Wowbrary clickthroughs indicate that patrons are using the email newsletter to then access the library’s catalog and place holds. C. Compliment/Complaint Forms Board reviewed compliments and complaints. The Internet problems should be solved and Turgeon has responded to many complaints about the lack of service. The library continues to receive many positive comments about our programming offerings. Programs will continue with the Friends funding, but we will be cutting back on the number of programs. Suburban Library Cooperative No report. Friends of the Library A. Bookstore Sales Bookstore sales for 2012 are down from last year. The Friends are having drawings each week in June for $25 Target gift cards for those patrons that spend at least $2. Hopefully this will boost sales. Unfinished Business New Business B. Library Board Bylaws Board reviewed the Library Board Bylaws which have not been updated since 1992. Suggestions for changes were made and will be voted on at the June 2012 meeting. Communication from Citizens Biolchini commented that a friend of hers, and former Sterling Heights resident, who now lives in Colorado, indicated to her that she misses our library and there is nothing like it in Colorado. The Board would like to commend Mike, a Friends Bookstore volunteer, for his great service. Adjourn Motion was made by Metzger to adjourn, seconded by Biolchini. Motion carried.
