Library Board of Trustees Minutes of Meeting September 17, 2012 Sterling Heights Public Library 40255 Dodge Park, Sterling Heights, MI 48313 586-446-2665 I. Call to Order Meeting was called to order by Don Schinzing at 5:32 p.m. II. Roll Call Members Present: Josephine Berthet, Susan Biolchini, Dave Brown, Mary Lou Metzger, Don Schinzing Members Absent: Staff Present: Tammy Turgeon, Library Director III. Approval of Agenda Metzger made a motion to approve the Agenda, seconded by Biolchini. Motion carried. IV. Approval of Minutes Biolchini made a motion to approve the minutes of the meeting on July 16, 2012, seconded by Brown. Motion carried. V. Communication from Citizens The Board would like a thank you letter sent to Loa and Steven Stanislawski for all of their hard work with Sterlingfest. VI. Monthly Reports, Statistics, and Correspondence A. Building-Wide Stats – FY2012 / FY2013 Board reviewed statistics. PC Sessions continues to decline. However, PC Hours Usage is similar to last year, which means patrons are staying on the library’s computers for longer periods of time. Donations added to Collection is the number of items that the library received from Memorial/Honor book donations and those items that were received for the Friends bookstore and were selected by a librarian to be added to the library’s collection. B. Monthly Issues – July and August 2012 Board reviewed the monthly issues reports. The  change of call numbers for SERIES sections in Juvenile and YA areas will take some time, but the Board thought this was good for patron access. C. Compliment/Complaint Forms Board reviewed compliments and complaints. The library continues to receive many positive comments about our programming offerings, including the Mom’s Book Group, family crafts, puppet show, Pokemon time, magic show, children’s movie. VII. Suburban Library Cooperative No report. VIII. Friends of the Library A. Bookstore Sales Bookstore sales are down from last year, but still doing well. B. Sterlingfest Report Sterlingfest did not do as well as previous years due to the weather. IX. Unfinished Business X. New Business A. Resetting Library PIN Numbers Turgeon discussed providing PINs to patron’s email addresses in their records. Currently, due to privacy, PINs are only given to patrons in person. Staff would like to try emailing these to the email address in the record when requested. Turgeon will report back at the next meeting to see if this is working. B. Review Library Board Mission The Library Board’s mission was reviewed. Meeting dates/times were updated. The Board will discuss the goals at the next Board meeting. XI. Adjourn Motion was made by Brown to adjourn, seconded by Biolchini. Motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 6:22 p.m. Next meeting is November 19, 2012 at 5:30 p.m.
