VI. Monthly Reports, Statistics, and Correspondence
A. Building-Wide Stats – FY2016 / FY2017 and Annual Comparison
Board reviewed statistics. New patron counters were installed in the lobby which
has shown a large decrease in library visits. The counters are more accurate as
they detect each person instead of just an object crossing the path of a light.
Circulation is slightly lower than last year, but emedia circulation is up. Program
attendance was high due to new children’s programs occurring this winter. Looking
at the annual comparison, collection size continues to increase due to emedia,
online usage is over 1 million again, and program attendance is higher than it has
been since 2010. Library cards, circulation and reference interactions continue to
decline. Library visits are back to 1994 – 2004 levels.
B. Monthly Issues – January and February 2017
Board reviewed the monthly issues reports. Board was disappointed that the
#DigUtica campaign did not win. Board asked about new Minecraft software. It is
still very popular with young patrons. Board was complimentary about the new
winter reading program for kids. Board asked about Tammy’s Top Shelf videos.
They will be debuting soon.
C. Compliment/Complaint Forms
Board reviewed compliments. Received compliments for Baby Lapsit program,
Exotic Zoo program, Black History Month programs, DIA program, having scrap
paper at the PCs, Teen Chocolate program, Land Grab program, and a general
thank you for our marvelous staff. Special recognition was received for service
provided by Jessica Woodward, Debbie Vercellone, Gary Johnson, Betty Derra,
Diane Spelich, Rebecca LaFave, and Brent Efing. Board reviewed complaints.
Patron suggested purchasing Hoopla. The library can not afford it at this time.
Patron requested the Friends’ Used but Sterling bookstore remove items that are
under the tables and put them all up on shelving. This can not be accomplished
due to limited space. Patron requested that Coin World magazine be purchased
again. It was mistakenly missed when our subscriptions were renewed. It has been
added. Patrons complained about the bathroom stall latch not working. The
bathrooms will be remodeled later this year and new stalls will be included. Patron
complained about excessive noise on the first floor. Staff will continue to monitor.
Board wanted to compliment Danielle Kopacki for the new consolidated format for
the Board to review feedback.
