Board reviewed statistics. Program attendance is much higher than last year for
July and August. Wireless usage continues to be high.
B. Monthly Issues – July and August 2017
Board reviewed the monthly issues reports. Highlights discussed: Outreach
program is doing well with new Van Driver Dawn Schultz. The Summer Reading
Program was very successful. The end party in Dodge Park had 500 people and
the Teen after hours party was a hit. Staffing changes include two PT Librarians
that have resigned for full time jobs elsewhere. One new PT Librarian was hired
and interviews will take place soon for the second replacement. Future reports will
not include a summary of the statistics since City Council is receiving a revised
monthly report. Turgeon will still provide the monthly reports with
services/programs/issues, automation/technology, and board/commission/staff
information.
C. Compliment/Complaint Forms
Board reviewed compliments. Received compliments for the Gemini program,
Transforming Your Narrative program, 1,000 books before kindergarten program,
and the S.M.A.R.T. bags service. Staff recognition was received for Cheri
Edmonds, Nina Fancher, Jessica Woodward, and Carter Jacobs. Board reviewed
complaints. Request to remove a title from the collection was sent the “Request for
Reconsideration of Library Materials” form to complete. Patron that had issue with
Overdrive hold list for audiobooks was contacted. Patron that wanted magazines
to be counted for summer reading entries was contacted. Suggestions to purchase
various titles were forwarded to the Librarians.
VII. Suburban Library Cooperative
Cooperative worked with Sterling Heights, Utica, Clinton-Macomb and Shelby to
implement the virtual library card program with Utica Community Schools. A kickoff
event was held at Sterling Heights Public Library on September 13th and included
attendance by the Mayor and his family, Assistant City Manager Jeff Bahorski, UCS
officials, and Library Board and Friends Board members. This project is very exciting
and should continue to foster good relationships with the schools.
VIII. Friends of the Library
A. Bookstore Report

on a Friday – Sunday with BOGO free offer. Turgeon will suggest at next Friends
