Library Board of Trustees Minutes of Meeting May 21, 2018 Sterling Heights Public Library 40255 Dodge Park, Sterling Heights, MI 48313 586-446-2665 I. Call to Order Meeting was called to order by Chris Frezza, Chair, at 5:34 p.m. II. Roll Call Members Present: Josephine Berthet, Chris Frezza, Stacy Ziarko Members Absent: Dave Brown, June Hughes III. Approval of Agenda Motion to approve the Agenda was made by Berthet, seconded by Ziarko. Motion carried. IV. Approval of Minutes Motion to approve the minutes of the meeting of March 19, 2018 was made by Ziarko, seconded by Berthet. Motion carried. V. Communication from Citizens Board suggested that the outside book drop be fixed as soon as possible. Residents are unhappy. Turgeon is working with Facilities department to come up with solution. VI. Monthly Reports, Statistics, and Correspondence A. Building-Wide Stats – FY2017 / FY2018 Board reviewed statistics. Circulation has really increased over the past two months. The library should end the year higher than last year. Visits continue to be lower than last year. Reference is a little lower than last year. Program attendance continues to be high as well as wireless usage and room usage. B. Monthly Issues – January and February 2018 Board reviewed the monthly issues reports. The new adult craft programs have been very popular. Board suggested that the Librarians mention at all programs that the Friends of the Library pay for them and have a donation canister out to contribute. Board also suggested lower cost crafts so that more people can participate. Turgeon will forward suggestions to Jason Groth. C. Compliment/Complaint Forms Board reviewed compliments. Received compliments for Talk & Play program, Storytime program, Estate Planning program, and Teen Advisory Board and TAB events. Patron commented that they are very pleased with automatic renewals. Staff recognition was received for Gary Johnson and a Librarian at the Information desk. Board reviewed suggestions/complaints. Suggestion was made to have more storytime programs and more activities for talk & play programs. Suggestions will be forwarded to Programming Coordinator. VII. Suburban Library Cooperative New PC order went in and we will get three all-in-one PCs to try out for the public as well as 14 Dell PCs. VIII. Friends of the Library A. Bookstore Report The bookstore sales continue to be lower than last year’s sales. B. Friends Customer Appreciation Week The Friends gave away 223 book bucks that were used in the bookstore during the week and $79.50 was raised. IX. Unfinished Business none X. New Business A. 2018-19 Library Board Meeting Schedule Motion to approve the proposed 2018-19 Library Board meeting schedule was made by Berthet, supported by Ziarko. Motion carried. B. Sterlingfest Water Sale Turgeon requested that Library Board members volunteer for Sterlingfest. Teens from TAB will also be asked to fill in open spots. C. Memorial Book Policy Revision Motion to approve the revision to the Memorial Book policy was made by Ziarko, supported by Berthet. Motion carried. D. Programming Center Use Policy Revision Motion to revise the Programming Center Use Policy was made by Ziarko, supported by Berthet. Motion carried. E. Conference Room Use Policy Revision Motion to revise the Conference Room Use Policy was made by Berthet, supported by Ziarko. Motion carried. XI. Adjourn Motion was made by Ziarko to adjourn, supported by Berthet. Motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 6:15 p.m.
