Monthly Reports, Statistics, and Correspondence A. Building-Wide Stats – FY2018 / FY2019 Board reviewed statistics. The website/database/catalog searches ended 19% higher than last year. E-media circulation was up 15% compared to last year. The ebook / eaudiobook collection size jumped significantly in June because the shared collection is now counted as owned by each library. Circulation was up 12% compared to last year. B. Monthly Issues – May and June 2019 Board reviewed the monthly issues reports. Events will be coming up in the next few months that the Library Board will be requested to attend. A ribbon cutting for the oversized game area next to the Children’s Art Garden will be August 20th. A ribbon cutting for the storywalk in Beaver Creek Park will also be held soon. C. Compliment/Complaint Forms Board reviewed compliments. Received compliments for the Teachers Appreciation Night event, Puzzle Competition, Current Design Trends program, Movie programs, the Library’s early education programs, Toddler Time program, Library Services in general, children’s programs and the children’s area of the Library, Story Time program, the fish tank, the puzzles and magnet sorting board, and Baby Lapsit program. Board reviewed suggestions/complaints. A complaint was received regarding the condition of the tables in the Programming Center. We have requested that the cleaning company take extra time to clean the tables. We are also getting replacement tables soon (the current tables are 19 years old). Suggestion was received to be able to renew a library card online. This is not possible due to Suburban Library Cooperative rules. Patrons can use all of the member libraries, so renewal of cards must be done in person with proof of residency. Suggestion was received to purchase a coat rack. This is not feasible due to the Library being a public building. VII. Suburban Library Cooperative The Sterling Heights Public Library position on the SLC Board ends September 30, 2019. The Board structure has changed so Sterling Heights will be on the SLC Board again in six years, unless other libraries pass, and the term will be for three years instead of five. VIII. Friends of the Library A. Bookstore Report The bookstore income is slightly above last year. B. Sterlingfest The Friends will be selling water ($1), t-shirts with all of this year’s bookmark winners ($10), and coasters of the city murals ($3) as fundraisers. Thanks to our volunteers, all of the shifts are filled. IX. Unfinished Business A. Library Survey The survey results will be shared with staff and city management. Jason has already made some changes to programs based on the feedback. X. New Business A. Lost Child Procedures Brown made a motion to adopt the Lost Child Procedures, supported by Cozort.
