Library Board of Trustees Minutes of Meeting March 15, 2021 Sterling Heights Public Library 40255 Dodge Park Sterling Heights, MI 48313 586-446-2665 Meeting was held via Zoom, meeting ID 910 0249 5171 I. Call to Order Meeting was called to order by Chris Frezza, Chair, at 5:35p.m. II. Roll Call Members Present: Shirley Cozort, Chris Frezza, Terry Hojnacki, Stacy Ziarko. All Board members were calling in from Sterling Heights, MI. Members Excused: Wendy Popko III. Approval of Agenda Motion to approve the agenda was made by Cozort, seconded by Hojnacki. Motion carried. IV. Approval of Minutes Motion to approve the minutes of the meeting of January 25, 2021 was made by Hojnacki, seconded by Cozort. Motion carried. V. Communication from Citizens none VI. Monthly Reports, Statistics, and Correspondence A. Building-Wide Stats – FY2020 / FY2021 Board reviewed statistics. Hold fill rate continues to be high due to lower circulation numbers. Reference questions are increasing due to the library building being open. The library continues to offer more programming options (in-person and virtual) for an increase in program attendance. B. Monthly Issues – January and February 2021 Board reviewed the monthly issues reports. Curbside continues to be a popular service, but patrons are also starting to come into the building. Home deliveries are trending up, many of whom are regular users of the service. C. Compliment/Complaint Forms Board reviewed compliments. Compliments received for the curbside service, SMART bags, wifi hotspots, Overdrive/Libby ebook service, Teen Book Box, and curbside craft kits. Received staff compliments for Laurie Zachwieja, Barb Petrowski, Circulation staff, and all of the library staff in general. Board reviewed suggestions / complaints. Complaint about not receiving email notices was resolved with SirsiDynix and SLC assistance. Complaint about the building not being open – building was opened February 1st. Complaint about handling of tax forms through curbside – apology issued and staff retrained. VII. Suburban Library Cooperative Still working on availability of self-checkout through app. VIII. Friends of the Library A. Bookstore Report Volunteers will be trained in the next few weeks to use the new cash register and review sorting. Lakeside Mall book sale will be in April. IX. Unfinished Business A. Building Updates Building is scheduled to be completed the first week of May. Ribbon cutting will be on either May 18th or June 1st, depending on Council’s schedule. X. New Business A. Photograph, Videotaping, and Filming Policy Revision Motion to approve the revised Photograph, Videotaping, and Filming Policy was made by Ziarko, supported by Cozort. Motion carried. B. Volunteer Appreciation Lunch Event will be held June 4th. This will be a boxed lunch so that those not wanting to stay at the DPFM can still enjoy a lunch. C. Library 50th Anniversary Event The Library’s 50th anniversary is in October 2021. Suggestion was made to issue a proclamation at the October 5th City Council meeting to recognize the anniversary. Suggestions were made to provide throwback pictures on social media throughout the month, a contest to send pictures of family members in front of The Bears statue over the years, and some type of scavenger hunt. XI. Adjourn Motion was made by Ziarko to adjourn, supported by Hojnacki. Motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 6:24 p.m.
