Library Board of Trustees Minutes of Meeting May 17, 2021 Sterling Heights Public Library 40255 Dodge Park Sterling Heights, MI 48313 586-446-2665 I. Call to Order Meeting was called to order by Chris Frezza, Chair, at 5:32p.m. II. Roll Call Members Present: Shirley Cozort, Chris Frezza, Terry Hojnacki, Wendy Popko, Stacy Ziarko. Members Excused: none III. Approval of Agenda Motion to approve the agenda was made by Ziarko, seconded by Cozort. Motion carried. IV. Approval of Minutes Motion to approve the minutes of the meeting of March 15, 2021 was made by Hojnacki, seconded by Cozort. Motion carried. V. Communication from Citizens none VI. Monthly Reports, Statistics, and Correspondence A. Building-Wide Stats – FY2020 / FY2021 Board reviewed statistics. Circulation continues to be lower than pre-COVID, although emedia circulation is about 30% of total circulation this year. Limited programming continues to have good attendance. B. Monthly Issues – March and April 2021 Board reviewed the monthly issues reports. Curbside and home deliveries are still being used. Curbside will be moved to two parking spots in the parking lot beginning in June to eliminate the traffic in front of the building. Home delivery will be reduced to 3 days per week starting in June. The Overdrive magazines are now available and will be funded by the Cooperative. There have been many staff changes with retirements, promotions, and new hires in Technical Services and Public Services. C. Compliment/Complaint Forms Board reviewed compliments. Compliments received for “best library around”, print job using curbside and music purchase. Received staff compliments for the entire library staff. Board reviewed suggestions / complaints. Complaint received about timing of Toddler program in afternoons. It will be moved to the mornings starting in the fall. Complaint received about one hour time limit on the public computers. This will change starting June 1st and will be based on current MDHHS and MiOSHA rules. Suggestion made to purchase a title. It was purchased. VII. Suburban Library Cooperative Cooperative staff assisted library staff with installation of new PCs for the public. This will continue later this week as well. VIII. Friends of the Library A. Bookstore Report The bookstore opened April 5th and is open Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10am-7pm. There is interest in opening on Saturdays also if enough volunteers can be assigned. A big thank you was given to the Library Board members that volunteered to work at the Lakeside Pop-Up Book sale. IX. Unfinished Business A. Building Updates The Library will be fully open on June 1st, although some things will not be completed by that date. There will be an increase in the number of patrons allowed in the building, the time limit will increase to two hours, there will be limited seating available, and the public PCs time limit will increase to two hours. The official ribbon cutting for all of the city complex buildings will be in July. Board members volunteered to assist with reorganizing shelves of books. B. Volunteer Appreciation Lunch The lunch is scheduled for June 4th at 11am. Board members are asked to come at 10:30am to help set up. C. Library 50th Anniversary Event Board discussed date for event and what activities to have. The event will be October 2nd and it will be a fall fest theme. We will have cider and donuts, a craft for kids (in person and/or take-away), a book sale (if Friends agree), a photo contest with the bear statue, historical photo displays, and possibly an outdoor show by the garden and/or scavenger hunt. Turgeon will ask the city to issue a proclamation at the September 21st City Council meeting. X. New Business A. 2021/22 Library Board Meeting Dates Motion to approve the 2021/22 Library Board meeting dates was made by Ziarko, supported by Cozort. Motion carried. XI. Adjourn Motion was made by Ziarko to adjourn, supported by Cozort. Motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 6:15 p.m.
